I'll take this to PM as obviously I don't want people to get hold of my details or where we're gonna meet etc. If you're wondering why these messages keep coming at such odd intervals, that's due to me being at work in the evening and sleeping until early afternoon, most days haha.

Also, I've seen the Gap Yah thing before - my mate used to have it as his ringtone for god knows what reason - but not in ages so lol and yeah, I don't think I could really hold a conversation about someone else's gap year, given that I spent mine at Sixth Form

It's a bit of a gutter that you didn't get the halls you wanted, but I reckon in a strange way it might be alright, as you'll probably be mixing with the same sort of people regardless, given that everyone's been displaced. In any case, at least you'll be close to the uni.
I got Allen Hall, on the edge of Fallowfield. I wasn't pleased at the time, given that it was my third choice and that it's a pretty small hall, but after seeing how many people are posting on that Freshers group on FB about how they didn't get any of their choices, I now feel pretty grateful. I'm still not completely sure about Fallowfield to be honest - don't get me wrong, I'm a perfectly normal, decent guy who likes drinking, going out, banter, whatever probably more than the next guy, but I don't really want to be around tons of dickheads. We shall see. I came to uni hoping to meet like-minded people, which brings me onto the bit about societies.
I'm not sure at the minute, because I don't think University website displays them all, but I'm thinking probably just the Amateur Dramatics society; partly to meet girls, partly to try my hand as an actor and, if I'm ****e at that, give scriptwriting a go. If indeed, that isn't the full list, then in an ideal world I'd probably join an Indie and independent record labels society, casual football society and perhaps something a bit off kilter, like a Pirate society or something How about you?

Sort of. I'd lived in 3 or 4 places before, but lived here in Toon for about 12 years now, and consider it my home. Like you, I live outside the city centre (about 10 miles) and it's bloody annoying for trying to get into town (and costs about £6 every time I want to go out), so I'm not ashamed to say that I'm looking forward to using Manc's incredibly cheap buses (that apparently run 24 hours!), though obviously it's not the main reason for moving here ha.
And oh yeah? I think perhaps the two songs that stuck the most for me this last year were 'I Want the One I Can't Have' and 'Stop Me...", though 'How Soon is Now' has been incredibly appropriate for me, ever since I heard it. That said, most of Morrissey's more personal songs with The Smiths (in other words, not the those that deal with outside issues e.g 'Meat is Murder' and 'Suffer Little Children') are extremely applicable and interchangeable for daily life. Were there any that were particularly pertinent or poignant for you, this year?

Cheers haha but I think there are plenty of superior writers who'd like that position and anyway, I don't agree half the time with their views and reviews - especially the hyping and subsequent dressing down of good bands, which is just so pathetic. Nevertheless, I will be looking to write gig and album reviews while I'm here, if I can make some contacts.
I can completely relate to everything you say in that passage that begins "I connect with Morrissey on a more personal level...". Moz is often labelled enigmatic, but I think you capture what makes him such a brilliant lyricist perfectly, whilst the bit about being a Northern teenage boy has perplexed me for a while, given that he often writes from a female perspective, but I couldn't agree more, having grown up in Newcastle myself.
My family don't moan about The Smiths because... Well, I don't really share music with them. They know it's my domain if you get me haha and regardless, they're a bunch of X-Factor watching ignorants whose idea of culture is Pizza Express.
Perhaps that's a bit harsh, and I'm not adverse to Pizza Express when I can afford it, but I love sharing music and have very few people to do it with - 6 or 7 good mates and quite a few more acquaintances - so I'm hoping that people have better taste when I move to Manc. So far, so good
Good luck with your accomm, by the way. Have you found out where you're staying yet? I'm not too sure about the halls I've been placed in - Woolton Hall was my first choice and it looks amazing in comparison to quiet Allen Hall (which only just counts as Fallowfield), but then the rooms are massive, I may actually be able to sleep, there are always societies and my course to meet people and apparently Woolton has a bit of a reputation as a hall for rahs and the like, so I may have dodged a bullet there.

Meat is Murder (the cd version with How Soon is Now? on it) was my second favourite for a while, but I've decided I prefer their eponymous debut, now. They had such a fantastic rhythm section in Joyce and Rourke, Johnny Marr is one of the most genius and innovative guitarists of all time (to my ears, at least) and where can I start with Moz; his lyrics are just utterly brilliant. I think he basically united society's outcasts, eccentrics and lonely hearts (myself included), and when I'm down, their sombre tone feels like being wrapped in a blanket of familiarity and understanding, and that's not to mention their wit and how unique they were at the time.
Anyway, that probably sounds like pretentious bull****, but everything about the band was just flawless - ordinary and extraordinary in equal measure.
Got my accommodation offer this morning for Allen Hall, which halls did you get placed in?

It's not a very original choice, but definitely The Queen is Dead, though, if we're allowed compilations, Hatful of Hollow comes pretty close. How about yourself?

Thank you very much x
