Hi there,

I was just looking at your post on the site about the D1 mini bus test. I am a PE teacher and am looking to take the test due to the weight of our mini buses being to large for me to drive on my car licence.

I have done my research on the internet with what is expected for the practical test as i have already done my theory and passed. I am getting conflicting information from certain staff informing me that the D1 test may need a lot of training and the practical test involves stopping at bus stops and going through all of the procedures you would have to if you were to drive a bus (D licence) for example picking passengers up at bus stops etc?

The only reason I ask is that we cannot afford to send me on one of the expensive D1 training courses due to budget constraints but was wondering if the practical test could be attempted without the training? I am aware of the practical test procedures on the Direct Gov web site for D1 tests and the reversing manoeuvre however have been spooked by a colleague from our Local Authority saying the test is almost identical to the full D test which goes into more depth?

After reading your post I felt confident that the D1 may be very similar to the Car practical test and just wanted to confirm that it was 'easy' as such but that it was possibly to attempt without official training. Sorry if it sounds as though I want an easy option, however if we had the funds I would have no hesitation in taking up the D1 training!
