Just about four years since I did F1101. Lol. There used to be two sections and you had to answer one question on term 1 content, and another on term 2. Don't you get a study pack if I remember rightly? That's good to act as a base. If you're confident about two topics, just study two, grab some suggested reading, have a look at past papers here.
If you've got three in mind, study three. From next year you'll be doing at least one intertextual question in your elective exams, so it'd make sense to get the ball rolling early. I did a module on Sartre last year, in which I was required to study three texts, but actually went with four and mentioned three texts in the intertextual question. Worked fairly well!
As exams are more or less a test of engaging in coherent discussion in a short space of time, you're not expected to learn quotes (this is the subject of discussion right through to final year) because there's only so much you can learn for one exam. But if you have a quote that you can pop in and it's entirely relevant to your discussion then go ahead. Though I absolutely wouldn't base an entire exam answer around quotes.

Best advice I can give you is always keep on top of your work and always keep prepared for seminars etc through your reading. You'll then find that it'll be easier to revise for your exams etc. SELCS isn't great yeah, there used to be separate language departments before Mr Austerity bit our arses. First year doesn't count for much so don't be afraid to have fun either! Good luck.

Ooh. I wrote a load of crap (whilst drunk) about how your posts were interesting and I was repping you because we're doing the same degree, or something. Did you not see it in the comments thing? Tbh, it's probably a good thing if you couldn't, haha.

Heyyy! Congrats to you too! ^^
I got AAA in the end. Bit annoyed because I was a couple marks off the A* in both French and Welsh, but that's certainly not the end of the world. I was amazed to get an A in French at all, considering how badly I thought FR4 went!

Hey bro; I didn't work there. I applied, had an interview, was given a job, only to have it retracted a month ago because they no longer had any jobs left. The company is disorganised and non-communicative. Don't bother!

i was trying not to mention any of that. i'm trying to be less 'homophobic' and im never gonna change my views on the USA.
ooh, another thing pittsburgh has in common with wales - both had catastrophic downturns after the manufacturing industries collapsed.

you don't really get humor do you? or have you still not gotten over our past?
i am typically american. i speak english, english and english. There are lots of communities here from different parts of the world and they try to hold on to some of their native languages. I live quite close to an italian area for example.
i do know one person who speaks some kind of celtic language. but you don't speak the same one as in scotland, and i can't tell them apart.
