Hi Gales!
First of all, congrats on your course choice, French is really a beautiful language! (Not that I'm biased or anything ) Montreal is definitely more anglophone than the rest of Quebec. That said, the anglos tend to hang out downtown, around the McGill and Concordia campuses, or as you mentioned, in some suburbs (Wesmount, West Island... nowhere you'd be likely to go). UdeM is in a more francophone part of town, and the students are for the great part native speakers, either from Quebec or France. As a matter of fact, UdeM is sometimes jokingly referred to as a lost district of France because of all the French students it attracts! So I really don't see why you would have a problem being in total immersion from the university side of things.
However, as most Quebecers living in Montreal will know both languages, they are likely to switch automatically to English when they speak to you if you have an accent. It isn't to demean your efforts, but rather to be polite that they do so! If you just tell them that you want to practice your French, and go on talking to them in French, they'll adore you for it.
As soon as you go out of Montreal, you won't hear or see any English. Visiting the countryside and the small towns can be a great way to fully immerse yourself, if Montreal isn't enough for you! The Quebec accent, which often worries people, is really not that bad especially in a university milieu, or in the big towns for that matter.
Anyway, I hope this helped you a bit! Montreal is an amazing place to live, especially for students. Everyone I know who came here from the UK for a year abroad loved it, and non of them want to go back home.
If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Exam preperation and a ton of set essays. D:
My oral is on the 5th of May. I've written the expose(because I just adapted an essay I'd done!) but otherwise I'm so unprepared for that exam. =(
-
Heeey.
Yeah. haven't spoken in a while - I hope you're ok too! I'm currently drowning in work and revision. WJEC ENglish Lit is horrible!
I haven't prepared my French exposé either. I predict a mad few days of trying to memorise it the week before the exam. :s

Hi Gales!
Thanks for your message, sorry for the slight delay in responding. I'm afraid we can't provide quotes on here. If it's easier for you, you can email our travel experts for a quote using the form here: http://www.statravel.co.uk/email-enquiries.htm
Hope that helps - and have an amazing time on the language course if you do decide to go ahead and book!
Thanks
Emma

It's the spring/summer immersion program btw –*5 weeks long in a small Quebecois town, and you can choose to live with a host family or stay in residence (I'd personally recommend host family, which is what I did! maximum exposure to French Quebecois culture!)

What WJEC subjects do you do?
-
Durham, I think. Where else did you apply to?
-
Ahhh ok. I only live about 30 minutes away so that might be why. French and German - pretty standard. What's your insurance?
-
Really? Hmm... I'm getting slightly concerned that it hasn't come through yet. Maybe it's different depending on the language combination. I think I was at the open day the week before yours.
