    right when considering the application for hku, basically u need at least some A* ( no matter if u are applying for MBBS or BBA or even BA. HKU is very high demanding and is academic-oriented when admitting students.

    5As in GCE is definitely not sufficient for biomed or MBBS (MBBS average grades = 4A* for ppl who did not got conditional offers). the E may not be the sole factor that brings down his application, because most unis do not count general paper. i assume the conditional offer made is for biomed right?

    and, if u have offer letters from other unis, your application will be greatly strengthened. so i assume the other friend got some offer letters? of course HKU dos not accept students on first come first serve basis. your friend may be rejected due to insufficient offer letters ornot well enough personal statment / reference letter

    i cannot predict his chances but engineering is not a very high demanding subject in HKU. so your friend still stands a chance! hope this helps you and your friend and wish your friend gets an offer as soon as possible
