Sounds like a good reason for doing a masters to me, if you want to do it then go for it! Probably wouldn't be a huge influence on your TC applications but it would help - the extra year of experience definitely makes a difference.
Personally I think being a trainee is bad enough, as a very junior person you get all the really crap work, but being a paralegal is even worse... some of the paralegals I knew just did filing. Paralegalling is probably more necessary in high street rather than at commercial firms, a bit like an extended job interview, but not something to do out of choice.
