Dear Charlux,
Thanks for your message. Congrats to you too!
Wow, many questions! Well, I'm Japanese and live in Japan, I reived an unconditional offer on 18th Oct. Then I felt temporarily relieved because I'm going to take entrance exams for medical schools in Japan in next January. (I'm interested in medical as well as IR)
If the med uni reject my offer, then I will go to St. Andrews uni for IR. (I had graduated from a high school and studying for med exam. It's a kind of gap year)
You are interested in psychology aren't you?
One of my high school friends is studying psychology in St. Andrews uni!
Well, I have to study for med exams...
It's very tough
Very nice talking to you.
Hope to see you in St. Andrews!
Sincerely,
Asami

Oh cool! Seems as we're applying to 3/5 of the same universities chances are high that we may be seeing each other next year. Let me know how your application goes, it would be great not to be total loner during Freshers week!! I'm not really sure how the Turkish system works, so you'd probably have to ring up about that. But I'm sure if you're application is really good and with all those ECs they'd love to have you!

Wow! Brilliant ECs. I'll just add them now. I'm sure St Andrews would love to have you!! Are you applying to any other UK universities? I've set up articles for Edinburgh and York as well, and I'm also on Durham and Cambridge if you wanted me to add you to any of them?

Hi Charlaux,
I actually still havent heard from St Andrews but ill answer any questions you have
I'm from israel so my qualfications & grades might be diffrent to yours, where are you from?

I highly doubt it would affect your chance of acceptance. As many others on TSR will say, league tables aren't definitive guides and there is a lot of variation between the different tables. SA is still one of the best UK universities for Psychology and their reputation would not change significantly over a year.

I applied to Exeter as well and I have visited my friend at Warwick, both the campuses looked great to me. Edinburgh is a lovely city but I haven't visited the uni. As far as I can tell, Warwick isn't amongst the top UK universities for psychology so I would be aware of that if you are considering applying there.
Yes I am studying Psychology and I love it! I have had some brilliant lecturers (and a couple of not-so-good ones but that is to be expected) and the first year course controller is such a helpful and genuinely nice person who works really hard to look after us and make sure everything runs smoothly. And of course at Scottish universities you get to study some other subjects for the first two years which I enjoy.
As you're used to living in a city, I'd definitely advise you to visit St Andrews if at all possible because a lot of people think it's too small. There will be visiting days once the new academic year starts and you will be able to go to a talk by one of the psychology staff as well as being able to look around the town and a hall of residence.

Hi Charlaux,
I really couldn't say how likely you are to get in to St A because I'm not familiar enough with your grading system and, like you said, I'm not an advisor! I would say, however, that if you really like the look of St Andrews then you should apply anyway. Then at least you will know one way or the other. Your extra-curriculars look great and if you have a great personal statement too then you should have a good chance. I hope you don't mind me asking, but are you a native speaker of English? If not then I'd recommend you ask one to check through your statement for errors.
Have you considered any other UK universities as well? If you apply through UCAS then you can apply to four other UK universities.

Oh,I am really sorry.I saw the answer this morning.I am from Turkey and want to apply to MA Psychology.I have a year left and my total average grade is 63 now and with next year It may turn out to be 67/100.I did a lot of EC,5 years of ceramics,MUN,was at school committee,at the philosophy club and will do job as an intern in a clinic and an assistant in advertisement sector. And I'll also be attending Columbia University's psychology programme.I really hope and truly wish with my heart to be a student in Saint Andrews )

I was accept based upon my academic prestige as I finished top of my class as undergrad in only 3 years...Also I think my personal statement radiated uniqueness regarding the contribution i look to make within the discourse of science as a whole..i hope i answered your question......
You will be fine, just go with your heart and if it is meant to be you will get in...
are you from the uk?
