As for the final year project, instead of a full-on presentation you have a 30 minute Viva with your dissertation supervisor and also your dissertation examiner (another member of staff from the department). You show off what you've done for around 10 mins, then they ask you some questions. Nothing too intense!
Can't think of much else to say really, but the campus is really nice and undergone some decent developments in the past few years including a very modern new library. Loads of shops in town which is only a 5-10 minute walk from campus, it has decent campus accommodation and plenty of standard facilities on campus like a grocery shop, bookshop, couple of bars and restaurants and the 1600-capacity Students Union.
Oh and the sports facilities are absolutely amazing and a steal at £195 for the year - see www.surreysportspark.co.uk
Anything else you wanna know that I've missed out, feel free to ask!

Hey,
I've actually found the course very interesting which, like I said, is one of the main reasons I chose it over other uni's. I actually got an offer from Warwick to do CS which was my Firm choice, but in the end chose Surrey because the course looked much better. Here's an idea of the sort of modules I've done over the years, which will have changed slightly but the essence is the same:
Java Programming (all 3 years)
A few maths modules (as with all CS courses)
Haskell Functional Programming
A couple of modules revolved around Artificial Intelligence
Networking
Databases
Professional Studies (laws relating to data use)
Computer Technology (CPU, Registers, Caches, RAID etc)
3D Graphics (OpenGL coding using Java)
Mobile Game/App Development
Computer Security (Cryptography, encryption methods)
Web Hacking (given a test website, have to hack into it)
...So yeah as you can see there's a big variety. I personally have no interest in AI at all for example, but as they only make up 1 or 2 of the 30 modules then it doesn't really matter. The lecturers are friendly and very helpful when you're struggling, and good at teaching (for the most part) and put all lecture content online as well.
For a job in this industry, I would say that CS is the best all-round course to go for, rather than going for a more specialist subject like purely Software Engineering or Internet Computing or something more vocational.
They give you lots of help for sorting out your placement year and have a lot of industry connections, including getting professionals in to help with your CV. With me for example, I got a placement working for BlackBerry and now have sorted a graduate job working for BP in London, so the uni itself doesn't hinder you in getting decent opportunities!

Im really stucked deciding on wgich university to choose for computer science as you can see from the earliest post. I would like to know about the modules the courses the lectures and stuff there at surrey. Is it an intetrsting and a fun subject or is it dull and boring, im always talking for surrey subjects. How are teachers and general the staff? Some say that system software engineering is more intetesting and fun and you can find a wider range of jobs. whats your opinion on this cuz i found a good course on sheffield on that course. Ah and btw hows tha 3rd year project for cs in surr? do you need to present it in front of a big crowd or not? If i do a placement year it will help me a lot to find work afterwards? what ranking has surrry in cs and hows its computrr department like, is it equippes with high tech and kewl stuff? Also if you know any extra info that you fell i need to know i would love to hear it. Sorry if i sounded like question robot freak but im a little bit nervous.
