The summer pool's there for people who miss their offers...I don't know how much it gets used for other subjects as obviously most Cambridge people will meet the normal offer of A*AA without much trouble but I imagine it's huge for Maths because of STEP

If anyone got an S on a STEP paper, they'd be in very good stead of being fished from the summer pool - plus, as long as they get a 1 in STEP II, it technically doesn't matter as STEP I isn't included in the conditions - S,2 is the most favourable combination to have if you miss 1,1 for the summer pool as Cambridge never fill all their places and people with S,2 are pretty much guaranteed to get in

Cambridge want 1,1 in STEP II/III normally - it is compulsory

Yes (and so does STEP II) but that's not to say STEP I's easy - it's pretty damn difficult Normally, I find the STEP I integration/ DE questions quite easy - they're fairly straightforward

I've finished self-teaching A-level maths and will sit to get the A-level in summer I'm self-teaching some FP2/ FP3 and prepping for STEP I this year in the mean time

Ha, I doubt I'd kill STEP, I see it more as an epic battle that is approaching Even if I don't get Cambridge, I'm determined to beat STEP
