I am a second year Dental student at Dundee University. I read your post and was wondering if all the points you made are the same for being a dentist in Scotland?

You might find page 9and 10 of interest. This guy does have his own agenda however this does suggest independent NHS practices are going to die out.

One final question in regards to corporates, I assume if they are anything like veterinary corporates is they are filled with foreign trained dentists or young UK trained ones who are hanging out there until something better comes along (private work for example)? If so, I cannot see how they can do that well in the market place. Corporate vets suffer from the fact that all the staff are employees and hence no one is particularly bothered about customer service etc.

This might play well for private dentistry provided of course you have the means?
