Textbook-wise you don't need to go overboard, Grey's anatomy is important to get at some stage, Kumar and Clarkes would be handy....for first semester 50% hate it and 50% love Essential Cell Biology, so I'd recommend it. First semester is rote learning dry science facts, only when you come to second semester is there an actual medical feeling to it. In first semester you do alot of genetics, alot of histology and a fair bit of ethics. My regret is not spending more time on embryology because it is horrendous. Personally I'd recommend lending an embryology book
