Can someone who's actually in Bristol and familiar with the place do us all a big favor? Why not mark on wikimapia the various Hall, Student House etc location?

From me, thanks in advance.

On the first page. There's also a map on the accommodation website - http://www.bristol.ac.uk/accommodation/usefuldocs/map.pdf
The accommodation map gives rough neighborhood of the various halls. But in google map, you can located the EXACT building. Far more detailed. Do give the link given above a look. You will be amazed at the details.

why don't you just type each hall's address into google maps then?

hey

are catered halls more social cause you see loads of people at breakfast or dinner? or is self catered better, cause you get to know your housemates more?
becasue, even though i can't really cook, i don't i'd mind going for self-catered, but also wouldnt mind catered, so just need an overview for both. Plus, is the social life at stoke bishop worth the walk everyday?

thanks

I've only ever done catering so I don't claim to be an authority, but I get the impression it is easier to meet people in catered halls (although that's not necessarily the same as saying they're more sociable). People I know in self catered flats have said they've found it harder to meet people because once people are in their flats they tend to stay there. That's anecdotal obviously, I don't know how true/to what extent it actually applies though.

I've always thought this idea of a better social life at SB somewhat exaggerated. I spend the majority of my time with people in my hall and don't really feel we have much to do with the other halls near by. Anyhow, there are three halls in Clifton right next door to each other, so I don't see how SB can be more social; the set up is pretty similar, but just in different parts of town. Why should one group of halls be better for socialising than the other?

Sorry, I know it doesn't answer your question directly, but maybe it gives you a couple more things to take into account when you do come to decide!
Everyone who dislikes walking, and doesn't have a car or enough money for the bus, just don't go to Stoke Bishop, I like walking but i'm bored of the walk already - and only have to do it once a week!
what about biking it? do many people do that?
I prefer the look of SB I think but the walk does sound horrible!!!
Especially as I have a lot of contact hours a week.. oh =(

A fair few people do yeah. On the way back up though you're better off using Hampton road, as I think the incline is less severe!

1)many do bike it.
2)The walk isn't as bad as it sounds especially with good company.
3)There's always the bus.
4)If the walk is your only concern go for a SB hall because a month into the term you won't consider it an issue.

Its only for a year, and people seem to say they liked walking as it helped form friendships

The walk is not the reason I decided to choose Clifton accomadation, it is that I thought Clifton was a nice area and the buildings were nicer
So has anyone actually made their final decisions?
