ok..
Is there a uni that offers also digital tv production to its course(or digital production is a part of the course?)

Also is there a uni with digital tv and film production?

I also found this uni
Greenwich - tv & film production
Does anybody know this unis course? Is it any good or it will be a waste to go there?
I'd say since it's involved with the BBC it'd be a good course. I'll look through it a bit later to give my opinion (and whether it might get a place in my 5)

The UCLan TV Production course (mine) can involve a lot of digital TV production if you opt for those modules.

I agree with LT (sorry, shortened the name), that the links of that Greenwich course with the BBC (particularly the residential options) will help it immensely. The only thing I'd comment on is that the course doesn't seem to cover huge amounts of everything - and rather than start with a basic grounding and work on improving this year by year, it seems to cover different (basic) thing each year. From the way those modules are listed, it seems to be very vague, a cover-all course. It also doesn't imply that you can specialise - though that might just be something that the website doesn't reveal.
Also, it doesn't say what's optional, so if you have really bad artistic skills you don't really want to be doing Animation. Although, I suppose 3D would be easier than 2D animation XD

Will go through all of those in order, logo, and give my opinions. Hopefully others will come along and do the same for you.

Gloucester: Looking at that course, it does look very good. It covers a lot of areas (which will overlap), but what confuses me is that it missed out two vital pieces of information which you may want to research if you look into the course more. Firstly, it doesn't even say whether or not it's a BA or a BSc - the focus of the course as either a science or an art can have a big impact on your actual education, and your career. Secondly, it doesn't really indicate whether or not you can specialise, beyond choosing those optional 'one of' modules.

Middlesex: The course here sounds very good, and the facilities, as described by the website, sound suitable. The website makes it clear that you can specialise; a huge benefit; and it covers all the bases as far as TV Production goes.

Wolverhampton: Not sure on this one at all. The first year sounds good; but from the description of the second and third years the course doesn't seem to go into any depth or substance. From what the website says alone, the course sounds vague, and doesn't look to prepare you in any real way.

Chester: Here's another one that doesn't make it clear whether it's a BA or a BSc. However, from what's written it's clear that it'll be a BA. That course seems far too theory-based if you're looking for an actual education in production. There's very little technical/practical provision there from what I can see, and a lot of the theory also seems a little pointless. If I were you, I'd steer clear of that one - it seems wrongly defined; a television 'studies' course including a small amount of production just to give itself the name.

Southampton Solent: Wow; those links give nothing away. Strange. The first few paragraphs sound like something great - but then, where's the content? Can't really say much about those ones at all. They do mention specialism (in the later two links), but it's VERY limited; seems you're restricted to a few key areas, which would worry me as it says that people will all be working towards the same areas - it indicates, to me, both a lack of opportunity for understanding and teamwork, and a concern about the skills and knowledge of the lecturers; something to be aware of. I also don't understand why they need all those separate courses; really, all of those skills should be taught in one.

Sunderland: This one makes it clear, straight away, that it's a Skillset accredited course; a good start. Remember that this is a wider Media Production course; so you'll be doing just as much with other areas of media. It includes both theory and practical, and the facilities sound brilliant. Also, that wide range of options is a huge bonus; it shows that there're plenty of links and potential things to cover. That, to me, sounds brilliant if you're interested in all aspects of the media.

Teeside: I know somebody on this course, and have heard great things about it. The quality of the work produced by this girl is excellent. However, looking at the modules, be aware that it doesn't seem to cover everything in very much detail at all, and only two years of modules are listed on the site, which is unusual; it says that the third year is very much an individual thing - but that seems strange to me; teamwork and new learning is essential for the three years, in my opinion; there's too much, in a good course, to cover in two years and allow you to be let loose completely in third year - so there may be more to that one than meets the eye. It's Skillset accredited, though; I'd just definitely request more information on the modules and teaching style if looking into that one.

Bedfordshire: Another one that gives very little away on the website. What confuses me here is that the course is labelled 'TV Production' but has had its name changed from 'Video Production' and seems still, from the website, to be more of a cover-all video course than an in-depth television production one. Still, with limited information on course content it's impossible to tell - the modules listed don't seem particularly good just by name - they're not really covering what they should be; and it would be a bit worrying if those modules were the best they could list. Looking at the 'Why Study This Course?' section, the idea of strong industry links, experienced staff and alumni success sound good - but where's the information, really? Another one I'd really need more info on to be able to give you my judgement.

Anglia Ruskin: This course looks really good. It covers all aspects of Film and Television Production, from the appearance of those modules; and it has a decent mix of theory and practical. One thing to note is that it doesn't seem that the permanent lecturers have strong experience of their own outside of the teaching environment - but if the course covers all of those modules effectively and has part-time, experienced lecturers, that shouldn't matter at all.

Leeds: Staffed by industry professionals; good right from the start. It covers everything from pre-production through to post. However, something to note is the way the course kicks off - you're learning theory for half a year before you even start on the practical production; really, those two should be very much intermingled throughout the whole course - it's better to learn and use the theory as you go along. This one looks really good, overall, though.

Liverpool Hope: Another very vague website here. Looking at the course listing, this one doesn't seem to cover half of what it'd need to in order to provide you with a solid grounding. Then again, not all modules are listed, so more information's required on this one too for me to make any kind of judgement...I have a deep dislike for courses that hide information; hard to trust.

You also mentioned Leeds Met, but the link you've supplied is to a foundation course; I'm not sure if you realised that?

Well done on doing all of this research; just keep in mind your goals, and think carefully about whether you'd prefer to cover all of your bases on the course, or specialise in either television or film.

ok well i thik i want to cover all bases and then do a MA in a specialasiation(is there any btw?)I also have added the correct link above your post(double post i think but i have input also anglia ruskin)

and im not saying from only this unis the best one.I mean also for the ones in your list.

My basic question.
Is there a ''Best'' uni in this field?or each uni gives different things?(and then emphasise in the ones you like.)

I've edited my post above to bring in the new courses you listed.

There isn't a specific best university, no. As you can see; what each university offers varies A LOT; but the media industry is one where every experience, and every persons knowledge and skills needs to be different, so it's all about finding the right one for you.

If you read through my reviews you can see the areas I'd be wary of; but obviously those courses might be the ones that cover key points you'd be interested in!
Wow, I have a lot more reading to do later. I'll use it to procrastinate on work during my 2 hour free period this morning! I'll post again if I think I'm going to apply to any of them :giggle: Although a couple of them are already on my shortlist (Anglia Ruskin [probably getting removed from list], Leeds, Middlesex, a few others)
I think I've figured out what I'd specialise in. I want to do Entertainment TV, and either Write or Direct. So, just got to look out for specialised courses  My list is 7 so far but still rising, plus I'm going to do more research once I've picked a list. I'm making it in word, so I'll upload it here and perhaps people could fill in the "comments" column for me? I'll be making my own comments on my own copy of course, but I need as many opinions as possible.

Yay for you working out what you want. It'll be much easier to whittle it down from there. I'll be happy to look through courses if you post them up.

Using that I found an in-depth module list for York St. John's ... modules. It's not just a list - it says what happens in each module, so it's probably the most in depth I've found

Wow!

Now THAT is how all modules should be listed.
Mhmmn, it makes choosing a university so much easier to know EXACTLY what you'll be doing - down to exactly what you do for assessments! (2500 word essays = dead me T_T Although I suppose that's the norm/bottom end, Dissertations are 10k aren't they?)

I'll look through the other sites to see if they have anything similar

My dissertation will be 13,000 words plus a short documentary produced completely on my own. Oh yay. :p:
Ok, well, I'm going to e-mail a few of the universities to see what I can get. Before I send off the email though, how does this sound?

"Hello,

I am currently looking through many different Television Production courses for 2009 entry. Leeds Trinity is one of the universities I am very interested in and am looking to find further information. I wonder if it is possible to have a full module list (if the list on the course page is not a full list) and details about what is optional, and what is compulsory. Also, if it is possible would I be able to get information on what each module consists of and how it is assessed? It is very important to me as I am finishing up picking universities and the only things keeping me from picking or not picking a university is the amount of information available on the website and in the prospectus.

The course in question is P301 - Television BA; http://www.leedstrinity.ac.uk/study/degrees/Pages/Course.aspx?code=P301

Thankyou for any further information you are able to send me, it is greatly appreciated. If this is the wrong place to send this e-mail to (this was the only e-mail listed on the web page linked above) then could you please give me a different email I could contact.

-<my name, ish a secret to TSR>"

I'll probably just copy and paste it in to different e-mails, changing the appropriate words. The more it sounds like I'm going to pick them, the more likely they are to give me more information I suppose
