Kinetics of the reaction between Iodide and Persulphate ions?

Hi there! I'm new here and I was wondering if anyone can help me.

I am investigating the kinetics of the reaction of iodide and persulphate ions but I am really struggling to work out teh concentrations and volumes I need. My teacher says that as I am changing the concentration of the KI, the Peroxidisulphate needs to be at least 10 times in excess. But how do I work this out. I ahev had one failed attempt so far when I worked out that I would need 4cm of 0.01M KI, 2cm 0f 0.1M s2O8 and 1 cm of 0.1M Thiosulphate and 1cm of Starch. This reaction did not work at all and still probably hasn't changed colour form clear to Blue.

So how can I work it out? Thanks in advance!
