Brown stains on sides of teeth

Three of my bottom teeth have brown stains not on the fronts of them but on the sides. Can a normal dentist get them off with a clean scale and polish etc or do I need to go to one of those cosmetic dentists for whitening?

I could go to one that a few streets away that does the whitening but some of these fellas are rip off merchants. Anyone got something done like this?
If the scale and polish doesn't shift it, then you could always try one of those teeth whitening products you can get from Boots and various places. I seem to remember a lot of people on here raving about one particular product but unfortunately I can't remember the name of it and the Boots website is down.

Edit: A quick search tells me it may have been Crest Whitestrips, but apparently you can't get it here in the UK.
Your denist should be able to remove them, ring your denist and ask for a hygenist appointment and they will clean your teeth and tell you how to stop the marks coming back.
Could be any number of things. See your dentist.
