I am applying to start studying for a degree in primary education with QTS in September and the above university/campus has come up on UCAS.

Ive never heard of this campus before and cannot really find much out about it, other than you can use the Queen Mary University library.

So does anyone have any more information, have applied there, or have studied there?

Thanks a lot

If you're doing teaching you'll probably end up in lancaster campus but i may be wrong... thats where im studying primary education in september. i think it may depend on your second subject e.g maths etc. if im right its the one in London and doesnt really do the teaching side, i think you will only use it if you're doing placements in London/doing an art subject.

Have you thought about ringing up the university admissions and asking if they have any info? surely they are going to know more.

ive emailed the london admissions people but get a bounceback as the recipients mailbox is full

Do they not have a phone number? perhaps ring them? although with it being easter they may be on holiday. always worth a try.

Hi Alex,

I have applied here through UCAS as I wanted to be close to home. I don’t know much about the Uni but it was recommended to me by my Head of Year so it can’t be terrible! (Hopefully not at least)

Did you apply/find out any more information?

Im now at the University of Cumbria - Tower Hamlets doing Primary Education with QTS, the building is based in Tower Hamlets Professional Development Centre which is near Mile End station. Only a small amount of students in comparison to other unis but the library is equipped well for us as the university gives the buildings library a copy of our reading list.
Probably a dozen if that university of cumbria staff and as a result you can only specialise in mathematics or english.

Lectures are in 2 hour blocks and due to their being only a few lecturers it is quite personal, in what i would call a proper school classroom lol.

First time ever this year the site has a representative student that liases with the students union at the main campus and at the moment we are trying to arrange a mini students union down here and organise trips etc.

In general im pleased with the university so far, the lecturers are always willing to chat and its a very friendly place. The majority of students are Bangladeshi due to the area but there are a few White British students and a few mature students.

If you need any more info just let me know and ill do my best to help as I'm a Student Representative for my course in year 1

Theres an early years course as well as the primary route, early years is more play based i believe from talking to the other students.

Sorry i didnt reply sooner im assuming your interviews gone now, saying that one day last week i did see quite a few new faces hanging around outside the lecturers big office .

Hi Zoey

Seeing from above messages, i see you attended an interview with Cumbria for primary pgce.
Did you have it at Tower Hamlets campus? That's where mine is

I have an interview coming up, i would ever be so grateful if you don't mind and could help me out, giving any tips for the process of interview.
Tips on how I could prepare for the educational debate, what to talk about etc...

Can I give you my personal email add and maybe you could email there, its just easier. As i haven't really used this student room before. But you prefer to reply here, then that's fine as well.
Mod edit: please do not post your e-mail address on the public forum

I hope to hear from you soon.
I greatly appreciate any help given

Kind Regards
Saira

Saira
Hi Saira,

I still haven't had my interview yet but i got confirmation today that it will be sometime in late march. I'm going to talk about about

SEN

but you could talk about

Rose report creative curriculum

Introduction of MFL 2010/2011

ECM

safeguarding

or

Assessment for learning

The important thing is to talk about something you are passionate about and know lots about.

there is loads of info on various broadsheet newspaper websites and government websites.

A quick question for Alex

What is the time table for your course? How many days per week and what are the hours?

I had an interview at Cumbria and they don't have a clue what the time table is.

Thanks
H
