Go for a cervical smear as soon as you can. It's probably nothing but will put your mind at rest. Ask if they will screen you for all STDs as well. I was in the first stage of cervical cancer when I was having pain in that area (it came and went, sometimes sharp, others dull), and I ignored it until my smear showed something was wrong. Naturally i'll never ignore signs like that ever again, and I strongly advise other girls likewise.

I'm not old enough though, which what I'm going to be told. :-(. I had a full STD check 3years ago, which showed Chlamydia (but I was treated immediately) and I haven't been sexually active since.

CC is caused by the HPV virus, which can fester in your cervix for years before you show any symptoms. They don't test for it at a "full screen" either, you're only tested if you have a cervical smear which comes back abnormal. If you;re showing sypmtoms they *should* give you a cervical screen - I've met girls as young as 22 who have had advanced CC, and the fact they've raised the minimum age of screening to 25 has angered me immensely. Don't let a doctor tell you you can't have cancer before you're 25.. I'm 26 and I don't know how long I had it before they found it.

I don't mean to frighten you at all obviously, but you can understand why it's something I'm so conscious about. Tell the doc you're having these symptoms and specifically ask for a smear. I'd be surprised if they say no, but if you persist I think you'll get one anyway.

I understand that the other poster has had a tough experience with CC but she was more likely to come across other sufferers making it seem alot more common at a young age than it actually is. I wouldn't be too worried about that, but a smear is good if you want to set your mind at ease, especially if you smoke and had a young age of sexual debut.

Doctors DO say no to people under 25 requesting cervical smears... just for the record..
I was having SERIOUS problems down there and still wasn't allowed one. I was referred to a gynae under the 2 week suspected cancer rule and STILL didn't get a smear, due to being under 25.

The right area of your groin - it could be a multitude of things! Could be gynae, could be surgical (appendix etc), could be lower gastro, could be an exercise injury or something... go see your GP and see what (s)he thinks.

There's a huge list of differential diagnoses for right groin pain. Consult with your GP directly about this, who can take a full history from you and examine you where necessary - that's the only way you'll get the answers you're looking for!

I don't smoke, and my ''sexual debut'' (cute way of saying it lol) was 18. But I think I will get my butt to the Drs (AGAIN) and have it looked at. Or I might just bring it up in conversation tomorrow with Dr (I'm going to out of hours at my local hospital for the other issue that is going on), and see what s/he says.

Hi all,

As the title says I've developed a dull ache, sharp pain in my right groin. The pain is making me unable to walk properly. I vaguely remember having something similar (I think) ages ago and it eventually went. But this has just come out of nowhere. I'm not sure whether it's my period trying to go back into a proper cycle or whether it's something more serious.

I know people on here are not Drs, but I was just wondering if any other ladies have experienced anything similar.

I really wouldn't worry these pains happen sometimes and seeing as CC takes on average 10 years to develop i wouldn't put you particularly at risk. In addition to this it's quite common to have these symptoms when coming off the pill. TRY to enjoy your holidays

i wasn't saying that you made it seem that way, i meant that the op might think that it's really common in young females.

an Average means for MOST not all women. I'm sorry that you had to go through that and i'm glad you've come out of it well.

A lot of scientific papers stress that its important to note that around 97% of CC are caused by HPV, in particular strains 16 and 18. WE must understand that HPV is very common infection but getting CC is an uncommon outcome of this infection this is because most (~90%) of hpv infections will clear up spontaneously. furthermore there are a whole multitude of other factors like smoking, sexual debut, susceptibility and how effective that person's immune system is. What i'm saying is CC is multifactorial and while HPV seems to be important it often coincides with other risks to cause CC. So op even if you have been infected with HPV doesn't mean you will get CC.

i'm guessng you had cervical dysplasia or CIN?
