Is weird not to have facebook?

Everyone seems to have it except me. I've created an account twice, but have quickly deactivated them. I just don't like it, I don't really know why either. Maybe it's because I feel too exposed? And I don't really give a **** about most things that people post on there :/

So is it weird not to have it? I don't intend on caving in though. My 10 year old brother has it, my dad & gran! :s-smilie:

to be blunt, yes it's weird that you don't have facebook. just don't let any family members have you on it.

That was hard.
Get Facebook, but set the privacy settings to maximum. Then slowly liberalise your settings as you grow accustomed to it. Facebook is a great tool for keeping in touch with friends and more distant family; make it work for you, and try not to spend too much time on there and it'll be worthwhile.
all you had to do was say that you don't like socialising. you make it sound like you have some freak disease

It's only considered weird because its imposed on you by society. Every TV show & company has facebook.
In short, I don't think it's weird. It's kind of admirable that you don't rely upon it like everyone else does.
I mean we've survived without it before?
If you don't want facebook, don't use it

What is it with people and facebook?
Why does it have to be weird not to have it..it's almost like "OMG you don't have facebook..aaahh..what's wrong with you, your a secluded alien from Mars!"

I'm exactly like you, I don't have facebook, not because of anything in particular but I find it so boring..I mean the whole point of it is for social bragging and pointless statuses. I mean I honestly don't care whether you.."you are feeling cold.." or something stupid like that. I also don't like the fact how people become obbsessed with looking at other peoples pictures, it's almost insane, like that's all they ever do, is look at peoples pictures, show their friends, bitch about them a bit. And most of the time they don't even know them that well! I mean that's pretty sad!

And I don't like the whole stalking business....it's just creepy.
And how people have like 600 friends and don't even know 80% of them...

why?

Other then that it is a good way of catching up with old friends and people you won't see everyday, and I understand some people choose whether to do these things or not, perhaps i'm just generalising but that is the impression I get. I don't know. :/

The medical name sounds scary and grabs more attention. Unwarranted self-importance one of the pillars of this forum and I wanted a slice of the pie. :>

They keep telling me I could "fix this" with medications. Beta-blockers IIRC. But I'm afraid those will **** me up even more. I'd rather be anti-social than an unstable train-wreck.

Yes, it is weird. It's become a kind of thing everyone has and thus, not having it is about as odd as not owning a mobile phone.

It's become a method of communication that you need to have in order to communicate normally with people - arrange meet-ups, parties, whatever.

You don't need to expose everything about yourself. Just make a profile with your name, some normal picture. You don't need to give out any personal details and you can hide all tagged pictures of yourself from view. You also don't need to upload any of your own pictures.
What's facebook?

I get by very nicely without one. The people that I want to communicate with have my email address and phone number, and I see most of them on a daily basis. I have no desire to "reconnect" with hundreds of people from the past.
I don't use mine as often as some of my friends.

Yeah, i made one then deactivated it. Then I made a new one and it looks weird cos you only have 40 freinds or w/e when most ppl have like 500 or something (even though they dont know most of them).

There are extremly strong grounds not to have a facebook account as it's criminal how much information we willingly give to facebook who then sell the stuff on to companies/corporations/interested 3rd parties.

However, in the 'teen' society it is seen as quite strange.

I like it, go on every few hours entertain yourself for 10-15mins, fair enough no big deal if you don't have it, it doesn't make you weird that you don't have it, it just is weird that you don't.

Agreed.

Its unusual yes. Why don't you just sign up and use it to communicate with people. I don't get involved with all these status updates and crap, but it is useful for events and such. There's no harm in it is there?

I used to have it, but honestly the things that people post on there are so depressing. Most people update their status about things like they're having scrambled eggs for dinner. Like wtf, does the world really need to know that? And honestly, too many young girls get exposed on Facebook; pictures posted up of them topless & whatnot.

I found myself wasting SOOOO much time on there mindlessly refreshing my homepage for like 5 hours straight. It made me so depressed, and I finally deactivated. And to be honest, it's a whole load off...

It's not wierd that you don't have facebook. It's actually a good thing in my eyes.
