LCC FdA in Design for Graphic Communication entrants 2011-13

Hey guys, so I have an offer from LCC for doing a 2 year FdA in Design for Graphic Communication, plus the possibility of doing a 3rd BA top up from UAL.

This is what the course leader had to say about the course:-

Hi I'm the course director of both the FdA/BA Top Up DGC at LCC.

FdA's are worth the same amount of credits as the first 2 years of a
BA Hons - they're not a 'lower' qualifiation - they're just quicker
into the industry. We have lots of direct learning of practical skills in the studio - more
studio time and access to facilities and tutors. We teach through lots
of sign-up workshops so you get to design your own timetable too -
handy if you have work commitments.
This year the FdA DGC has had projects set by and worked with these
Industry partners:

Airside BERG Company London Ditto Press
Flamingo icodesign Interbrand The Institute of Contemporary Arts Julia Lewisham Council OKIDO National Youth Jazz Collective Nobrow Sorrell Foundation Timetric Uscreates Wallpaper Magazine Why Not Associates

Our students have been working with these people - often visiting
their studios and presenting their projects in their board rooms.
Most BA courses don't have that amount of direct learning - including
the BA GMD which focuses more on college based experimental projects.
We have a Mentorship Scheme where 2nd years can sign-up to have an
industry mentor (most are LCC graduates) who are out there working in
design who help you shape your portfolio and network.
We run our own BA Hons Top Up course, which again focuses on both
academic and industry aspects of design with the opportunity to spend
10 weeks of Term 02 on placements as part of your study. Also if you
start an FdA this year - if you apply (through a simple internal
process) and get onto the BA Hons year you will pay the similar level
of fees as you did on the FdA.

We have the best employment rate of any of the UAL graphic design courses and also have a very high NSS - over 75-80% average over the last 3 years.

Anyone else going for the same course at LCC?

Hi Brad,

I was unsuccessful for the BA Graphic & Media Design at LCC and thought the FdA would now be a good choice for me.

What qualifications did you have to be offered a place on the FdA? Never heard anything back from LCC after being rejected for the BA and was just wondering what chance I have of even applying for the FdA now.

Thanks!

Hey!

I don't know about the course-specific qualifications, but I had a portfolio review with LCC, and I was offered a FdA, since they thought it would suit me best as I do need more practical and studio training.
