I got an offer...I read one 'heavy' maths book from the library, but I read several description books on the history of maths, and autobiographies of mathematicians, which I think helped me appreciate where everything was coming from. My favourite in the light vein was Simon Singhs work on Fermat's last Theorum. I managed to find a book written by a tutor at the college I was applying to....so I read that as my heavy book.
