The Student Room Group

Please help me on this AS chemistry question

A student added an excess of hydrochloric acid to an old sample of magnesium oxide that is contaminated with magnesium carbonate.
state two observations that the student would make.

I have one observation which is that bubbles of gas would be given off as CO2 would be produced but I cant think of the other one, help?

thank you
exothermic reaction -> temperature increase (feels hot)

Would that actually be classed as a observation because I thought it has to be like an observation that can be seen with our eyes or is that never the case? lol, am I making sense?
Thats where the "feels hot" bit comes in.

Can't think of another likely obs off the top of my head.

The carbonate has dissolved/disappeared

Ah yes, i missed the "excess" bit. Disappeared is better than dissolved, as it's not a dissolution process.

Still exothermic, so you should perceive a temperature change.
