Nice detective work

Have some random figures in return! Imperial make offers to 57% of applicants across the university (excluding Medicine and other 15th October deadline courses). 46% of offer holders firm it, and 10% of them insurance it. 58% of firmers end up coming. Only 7% of insurancers do.

 I used your data in the first place to work it out! Though I misremembered the figure - it's 46%, not 42%.

Wow. That makes my chances slightly better haha. They said they give out 250-300 offers but I thought that was quite underestimated since they'll inevitably lose many applicants to Oxbridge etc but I didn't think it was as high as 46%.

My analysis would be as follows... (assuming Physics is typical of Imperial courses, which is quite a big assumption).

0.46*0.58 + 0.1*0.07 = 27% of offer holders end up coming. Therefore for 230 spaces they'd give out 230/0.27 offers which is 850. Which is well over the half of applicants they interview. Therefore you're more than guaranteed an offer  (Or perhaps more likely, the initial assumptions are wrong...)

Some of those figures are astounding!

57% of applicants get offers?? 46% firm it? I would imagine most people would only firm Oxbridge over Imperial.

And then only 58% of firmers go. Where do the other 42% go? Miss offers or reject after results?

Weird imo.

Not necessarily. For example, for maths Warwick is generally seen as better than or equal to Imperial. The same might apply for other subjects at other unis (medicine at UCL? :dontknow:).

I don't understand about the firmers though.

I knida disagree because just bcoz warwik ask for step, doesnt necessarily mean they are better, infact, its the modules u pick in maths that determine hw intense it is. As for med, its the same everywhere because all hospitals have the same routine and no mattterwhat u specialise in, you Will learn the same as another i mean their is only way to check someone if they have aids.

Are those the offers for just the Physics Course, or does this include theoretical too? and/or with music?

Do you have/have you had an interview yet?

I guess yeh, but the firmers stat is crazy lol. Where do all these people go lol, 42% of the firmers is a huge amount.
Any1 with maths and stats for finance offer? If so, then tell me when u applied and what ur AS and A2 predictions are. Will b pleased if u answer me, GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

Thank you very much!

And I see that you have an offer from Southampton. Congratulations to you on that. :thumb:

And good luck for your Oxford interview.

dude...did they email you at all when they received your exercise answers?

I think it was Physics overall and yeah I have but haven't heard back at all yet.

So does it mean if you have an interveiew your chances of getting an offer are pretty high?

Yes. I sent them my answers on Sunday and they replied to me on Monday, confirming that they had received my answers and would give me their decision within a month.

Any Civil Engineers out there?

Prospective without interview. But...you already knew that.

Don't forget, some end up deferring or deciding that the course isn't for them, or opt for other countries (e.g. America) - so that would affect statistics a tad.

By the way, at the mo it's the last few weeks of term - which means end-of-term tests, exams, assessments and such; a fair few of which count towards credit. If we seniors are a bit quiet that's probably why. We break up on the 16th, though!

I was looking at last years thread and apparently the department for biochem and biotech are very random when they pick up a set of forms to assess. people who applied in september didnt hear until january while some people who applied in november heard back in december but i reckon your likely to hear back before mid december before the uni closes if you've had your application in early.

Hope so =/ hope that they r ganna reply!!so stressed!!although hearing other ppl getting offered for the same course(theoretical physics) is annoying(in the sense that I'm soo stressed but not jealous) =/

ah, okay thanks  I did the same and received the same response.

would you please update us once you receive your offer here? thanks! and good luck!

What happens if you dont go? Would that put you in disadvantage? I wouldnt want to go =/. :s-smilie:

its not disadvantageous, but going would be an advantage... however, im pretty sure they wouldnt mind overseas students not going... universities do understand that plane tickets and hotels would have to be arranged if you did.
