Are my grades good enough for Oxford?

well in history we've had a couple of exams and controlled assessments and I got an A for one exam, A* for another, and 3 As for controlled assessments... I really want to study it. I will try my best though

Do you go to Oxford/Cambridge?

Bit annoyed as I got straight A*s in my GCSEs except from History in which I got an A... If I was to apply for History would this make a substantial difference? I know woul probably look ridiculous as History is my favourite subject but I got full marks on on part of the paper and then had a bad day and got a C on the other part dammit!!!

I don't, I really messed up my interview as had gone to an open day at a college, got on really well with human geography lecturer at that college and had similar research interests to him so picked that college to apply to. Then got my interview invitation and it was someone completely different whose research interests were incredibly boring and the physical geography lecturer specialised in something I had never done before and again had no interest in! Basically I shouldn't have applied, only liked certain aspects of geography! I would advise to really research the course and make sure it is right for you otherwise it is completely futile. I'm now at Sheffield where the course is much more my interests! (I got straight A*s at GCSE at a comprehensive btw which I thought would make me a shoe-in somewhat naively, interest in the course is much much much more important!)

They really won't it, it is a B not a U! I got an interview with Cam with AAAC at AS and my friend also got one with something like BBCC!

I have an A in French AS (88%) and am studying Biology, Chemistry, Maths., Further Maths. and History Pre-U.

My teachers reckon I can get at least As based on my academic record and the person they know me as. The only problem is, I think I've spread myself too thin, perhaps have questionable time-management skills recently and can be a bit lazy. In Biology, I'm doing better than I expected except mucking up the write-ups a tad. Maths., got an A in the C1 mock which is all we've done so far, and for History, that can't be determined considering it's a two-year course, although according to my teachers, my essays are interesting and good for a Pre-U student.

The thing is, I really want to do Chemistry and I'm doing well/not doing well because I have got a couple of crap grades in some tests. The practicals are fine, it's just some tests, I've really mucked up on and according to the Oxbridge co-ordinator at our school, I'm not working hard enough (which is an hard feat with my subjects and the stupid amount of work it gives you). My Chemistry teachers still reckon I can pull it off in the end if I start working hard now. I have a genuine interest in Chemistry and seriously, I do do some Chemistry for fun. I am just so captivated by chemistry and the concepts that embody it, it's unnatural! I just don't get a chance to revise for tests because I can barely keep my head up due to other subjects and the workload, sometimes. But if I got a B in Chemistry, the subject I'm applying for, even though I'm expected to get an A, would I be rejected pre-interview?

It's just I'm worried that something will go wrong and I won't get an A at AS.

Will my enthusiasm and ability to learn quickly and think about things help/outshine anything that looks bad in my academic record? I just really think I could thrive in places like Oxford and Durham or anywhere where the research is good and current.

With regards to what other stuff I have/food for thought:

Just get the best grades you can. Getting a B in chemistry would clearly do you absolutely no favours, so improve that! Maths is also a vital subject for chemistry, as is f.maths.

I'm doing 5 AS-Levels and I'm currently predicted As in 4 subjects (AS-Level prediction - so no A*s) and a B in one subject. Of course, I haven't taken any exams for that subject so I can work hard and pull it up to an A. But if I fail to do so, will this one B affect my application?

Depends what you're applying for and what the B would be in.

Better to do less AS levels and get higher marks than to spread yourself thinly and do less well though, as a general rule

I'm applying for maths and that B is in biology
I'll try my best to get it up to an A. I've been a bit lazy this term

To what extent will the school I did my GCSEs at be taken into consideration? I went to a fairly poor school in an impoverished area and got comparatively good GCSEs, but now I'm at a very good school for whom my GCSE scores are pretty 'standard'.

It will be, they use the school where you actually took the exams to contextualise your grades

Hi, I'm looking to apply for either E&M or Engineering, Econ and Management. Please 'rate' my subject combination- providing I do well in these subjects, do I stand in good stead? For my GCSEs, I got 10 A* 1 A.
