Nope :P I left for a job as a waiter in a restaurant that offered £5.80 an hour + tips, but it shut down within months. I'd like to think I had nothing to do with its failure :colondollar:

Oh LOL :P

Sunday paper-round; £1 an hour. Complete and utter waste of time.
My first job was babysitting. I also spent a few weeks washing cars, cash-in-hand. My first official job was in Vision Express, but I only stayed a few weeks as my boss was a *****. I then worked in a library for 18 months

I'm from Cambridge, so did punting on the river for my first job.
I got £12 per tour that I did, usually lasting around an hour, which could be either amazing or terrible. as I didn't get paid for waiting between tours.

Cool!
How old were you with the babysitting?
It depends what you count as a first job!

From the age of 15 I worked myself, looking after people's cats / dogs / ducks / ferrets etc. when they went on holiday. Pay wasn't done ph, it was per job (and that varied a fair amount!) but it worked out pretty well - often £20+ph, although I didn't work full hours.

At 18, I had my first "proper" job - it was with a hospitality agency. I was on adult minimum wage (£5.92 at the time I think). I did two shifts with them (one waitressing, one bar), before they went bust!

And finally my first full time job, behind a bar, at the age of 18.

Ohh, how would you get a job at a library? That'd be cool

I was very lucky that my sister was already working in the library service (also as a casual for the same local authority) so it was fairly straight forward. As far as I remember I went into a local library and filled in an application form. I then got invited for an interview where we discussed what books I liked and why I wanted to work in a library. I then had a little 'test' where I was given a list of names and had to put them in alphabetical order (by surname) and a list of numbers (including with decimal points) and I had to put them in numerical order from smallest to largest or something.

A week of so later I guess I got a phone call telling me I'd got a job. To be honest, as a student (I was doing my A levels at the time) it was pretty good.

You could probably try going to your local library and asking if they're taking on any casual staff. It's pretty easy to fit around studying. I used to do 5pm-8pm on a Thursday and 9-5 on a Saturday.

I put up a few adverts in my village (nothing fancy - in fact the less fancy they were, the more response they seemed to get!), people rang me and it went from there. I had to give it up when I moved away, but it was the some of the easiest money I've ever made.
