UCL vs Manchester - Mechanical Engineering

Hi Guys,

I am having a hard time deciding my firm choice for Mechanical Engineering.
Manchester is supposed to be excellent in engineering and have good links with industry etc. UCL on the other and is not as good as good in engineering however in terms of overall prestige UCL>University of Manchester.

I am planning to specialise into Petroleum Engineering, but I would like to keep my options open for other careers, eg banking, actuary.

Has anyone had a similar dilemma? and what made you choose the one over the other?
Is overall prestige important?
I would think so, for banking, actuary etc.
Then you know which one to choose. :s-smilie:

Check manchester student satisfaction for engineering courses and you'll definitely know whom to firm.

Where can I check this mate? The thing is, people telling me mechanical engineering is UCL's ''worst course'', I don't want to pay 9 grand for education which is not sort of ''up to standard'' whereas Manchester is very respected in this field. Anyhow thanks for the replies guys.

On any league table such as the guardian or complete... I heard Manchester's engineering faculty is terrible and student satisfaction is like 55%. Many drop out too as engineering is a demanding course and apparently lecturers offer little to mo help and many are foreign and uncomprehendable. As to UCL even if it were to be its worst course, the level that they offer their courses at is up there so mech eng can't be that bad. Any course offered at UCL is definitely worth going to and the prestige of the uni is another pro. Hope this helps.

Surprisingly fits everything I said and more.

Look at where UCL ranks and where Manchester ranks. (Check it overall too).

Check student satisfaction in comparison to other unis.

Hope this is enough.
