Police face annual fitness tests and other possible reforms

It amazes me that they weren't in force before. You have to be so fit to join the force so why wasn't there a system in place to maintain that you had to keep that level of fitness up?

What do people make of it? It does talk about other possible reforms, such as pay and a raise in minimum educational requirements.

Is it unfair to add the extra pressures to their jobs?

About time. Half the police I see around town couldn't run the length of themselves.

As someone applying to join the police now, I was amazed how unfit some officers actually were. Annual fitness tests is definitely a good idea.

The idea of having people go right in at inspector or superintendent is awful though, you need good policing experience for that, and qualifications just won't give it.

Pay cut is also an awful idea, they're underpaid as it is (on entry) for a job with the dangers they face.
