I can't believe someone wants to make an American Sherlock. It will be rubbish.

I feel it's too early to be able to judge it just yet: we hardly know anything about it. There have been so many absolute turkeys of Sherlock Holmes adaptations that I think Elementary will end up being somewhat good in comparison. Not to say I don't disagree with the drastic changes they're making to Watson, but Sherlock made some big changes to the original Holmes stories as well.

One thing I don't get about the whole 'sullying the brand' argument Moffat pulled out of thin air the other week is how he could think the failure of success of a completely unrelated series in another country could stop people watching a previous one. People didn't suddenly flip tables at Sherlock because it came after Robert Downey Jr.'s film version, and people didn't decide to burn the film version after enjoying Sherlock. I feel that 'the brand' refers more to Moffat's pride than anything else.
Well, Moffat thinks that the American version of Coupling ruined the reputation of his show, so he's got a history, I guess.

And Lucy Liu is Watson. I'm not holding out hope, despite Jonny Lee Miller being Sherlock.
I've never watched either version of Coupling, so I can't comment on that. But am I right in that Moffat was heavily involved in the U.S. Coupling, and was therefore to an extent responsible for it?

But I'm willing to see how it turns out despite the whole Lucy Liu thing. I'm not going to write it off now as a failure, even though it's likely to flop -- more than likely due to the boycott by the large Sherlock fan population in the U.S. rather than by how good it really is. I know America tends to take a lot of good programmes and produce watered-down Americanised versions that are considered inferior to the original British version, but some of the remakes have achieved success.

I dunno, I always think the stories/sherlock has revolved around 'will they, won't they?', and according to fanfic, they definitely do:p:

Oh dear. I don't think it's a genuine possibility though in the actual stories/series, more of a funny thing to be hinted at. And I was ignoring the obvious exception of fanfiction.
I seriously doubt anyone actually believes sherlock will get with watson in the end. I feel the stories revolve more around the cases and sherlocks character, by hinting that they might be gay moffat is just poking fun and feeding the fandom.

I actually feel that a lot of fans would actually dislike it if they were to get together: I for one feel it would be completely out of character for Sherlock. I enjoy the tension and Sherlock's aloofness, and I don't think overt romance should be in it. The whole joke is that everybody thinks they are, and they're not going to want to lose that running joke from the series anyway.

I'm with you there. There's nothing wrong with having fun and imagining what it would be like if they did get together, but the writers would never do something so out of character - not to mention the fact that it absolutely doesn't happen in the original stories. It would ruin the show if they did it (but the actual risk of that happening is basically zero). It's quite refreshing to have a partnership that is close and not romantic, because that doesn't seem to happen that often. Plus it would detract from the point of the stories - ie the cases themselves, if there was some side-plot of romance.
lol perhaps 'Elementary' would fill in the absurd void BBC Sherlock left us all while they work on Series 3. At least we wouldn't be completely wasting away. It's like amusing ourselves with the snake thing while waiting for a youtube video to load.

This. Even though a bunch of people think it would be cool, I'm really hoping the writers don't go in that direction. It would piss off a lot of fans and would probably end up ruining the whole show. I like reading fanfics, but I'd be really upset if John and Sherlock actually became a couple on the show :s-smilie:
2014?

The BBC needs to pull some strings, this is one of the best shows its ever created and no one wants to wait 2 years for 3 episodes.

Either 3 episodes a year or 7 every 2 years please.

Creating Sherlock to the high quality we are used to must take an age but ffs I cant wait :frown:

To be fair, it's probably more to do with the main characters, both Cumberbatch and Freeman are becoming big actors. Freeman especially, and they have to work around their other projects.

exactly. the moment sherlock gets together with someone the tension, the fun and the excitement will be gone. that's why i think this stuff is best left for fanfic.

Yep. Fanfiction writers would run out of things to write about if they couldn't write highly speculative porn romance fics.

MrHappy_J: Ooh. I'm going to be on there all night. And yeah, I've got the DVD on its way from Amazon any time soon. Although it's been a fortnight and they haven't even sodding sent it yet.

i spend way too much time looking at those, believe me. most of it is just reading the comments which are quite hilarious.
i spent most of yesterday evening reading Sherlocks tweets

he doesnt reveal how he faked his death but molly was officially and definitely involved, she knew he wasnt dead. Johns reaction when Sherlock tweets "baker street in 5 mins" when he still thinks he's dead is hilarious and quite touching. Apparently they went on a trip to Prague  you should read it.
