:jumphug: So lovely to hear!! Really gives me all kinds of renewed motivation!!

Massive congrats to getting into UCL, what a place to go  What are you studying there, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks again, so sweet :cute:

I'm going to be studying archaeology! Something I've wanted to do for a long time! What would you like to do at Uni?
If your access tutors are even half as amazing as mine, you will sail through
I've had a fantastic time! And it's something I'll never forget haha

I loove archaeology. Really, really well done!!!:biggrin:

It's history for me though, I'm obsessed with history.

I just wish it wasn't so competitive :frown: It's around 1 place for every 10 applications in most unis & you need A*AA A-level to get in (as you probably know).
Even with all distinctions in an access course I'm really going to struggle to stand out. I have no doubt I can do it, I'm confident of that much, just not confident of getting in to where I want to study (I really want to apply to UCL, Warwick, York, Leeds & Manchester. I initially wanted to apply to Durham but after finding out that you only receive their bursary if you're living in their halls, I had discount it).

I keep thinking that, realistically, I need to apply to the lower universities to stand a chance of getting in anywhere, but none of their courses interest me, plus if I'm going to move my whole family to where I'm studying (eventually) then I really want to make it worthwhile.

Oh woe is me

I am ridiculously excited about starting the access course though! Not even got a definite place anywhere but I'm still excited, haha.

If there is one thing I will say, it's apply to UCL.
I didn't send off my UCAS application till christmas because I didn't know whether to apply or not, because I thought I'd be wasting my time. I've dreamt about going there for years, but really, it was a bit of a pipe dream. On my Access course I get the majority of assignments in distinction and some in merit, and I just didn't think I'd make the cut!
But I did apply, and if you have half as much passion about History as I do about Archaeology, you can do it!
I applied to UCL, York, Nottingham, Birmingham and Sheffield. Other than UCL I applied to fairly good Uni's, but not impossible ones, just in case! haha
Don't be scared to try, I'm glad I took a risk and it totally paid off!

One thing I've made sure I've done is volunteer work. I volunteer with an archaeology museum and with an archaeology department here in Nottingham, and I also do a lot of outreach work teaching about the Romans in Primary schools! So I've got lots of experience in all sorts of areas and UCL loves that! Try and get some work at a museum or any historical festivals? I got in touch with the council and volunteered my services lol
And as well as gaining experience, I've been on local tv, in the local newspaper and am helping to write a community archaeology handbook, along with other volunteers in Nottingham. I've had a fantastic time and met some brilliant people  and now I'm going to live in London!
Trust me, volunteering is the way forward lol I'm not really anything special academically, but I'm experienced and know a lot about my subject. If your worried about standing out, get on it!

I am also undertaking an access course for Physiotherapy for 2013 intake, should be finished by this September.

Bit different to most of the access courses I've seen listed by many people here, as my is distance learning based.

Currently taking 3 Specialist modules: Biological Health & Disease at Level 3, Advanced Human Biological Science at Level 3 and Physics at Level 3.

As you can see, I love my science!

Id just like to share some experience for all considering Access courses.

I passed one in social science 4 years ago! long story short i decided to apply this year as a mature student (25) with a very late application (2 weeks ago) and no a levels or g.c.s.e's. Although i achieved a mark of 69%. Im keen to study event managemnet and don't really mind where i have to do it.

Amazingly i got an offer from Gloucestershire within a week! Maybe that will be my only offer but im exstatic that the course has prevailed and even after 4 years i will be able to study for a degree. The acceptance alone feels like a great accomplishment for me!

So as said you will work your ass off for a year and pull your hair out BUT the end result is priceless!
I've got an open evening for the Access course tonight, and i don't really know what to expect....
They want to talk to us seperately after a presentation, does this mean we get offered places after talking and deciding what we want to do, or do we just get offered another interview?

I'm still not 100% sure exactly what i want to do with it, other than i want to do Forensic Science.
Had my open evening, and i've applied properly now,
Got to wait for them to ring me to tell me when i've got my English and Maths tests....
i'm doing the Science modules, so i can hopefully go to Staffs Uni and do a Forensic Science degree.

To those of you that have been interviewed, when did you receive your interview letter from the college? I'm simply curious as I sent my application off over a month ago and I'm frantically checking the post every day in the hope of a letter from the college.

If you've not heard anything then phone them up and ask if they have recieved your application. If they have recieved it they will have a record of it and will either let you know when you can expect to hear or resend a letter. Don't forget to be really polite, I've found people are far more helpful if you are super polite and friendly.

You'd be surprised how much stuff gets lost or forgotton either in the post or amongst the pile of applications that flood in everyday. You'd hate to miss an interview because the interview letter never arrived or because your application fell off someones desk.
I got a letter from 2 of the colleges I applied to (only recently, after 2-3 weeks) & I got a text message off another

I would definitely get in touch with them. I am ringing the 2 colleges that haven't got in touch  It is possibly just with having the Easter break in the middle that may have delayed things x

Congratulations

I attended my Health Science Access interview last week and they made me a conditional offer after the interview. Conditional because I have to do a BKSB test (as most access applicants do I think ? ) and I also have an interview next week for volunteering at one of the local hospitals and they want to know how I get on with that. All the same, I'm very happy to have climbed the first step

Good luck with everything, I'm sure you'll do great
I've applied for the Access to Higher Education recently. However, i haven't heard anything back yet.

I have four AS levels and a full A level. Is this going to block me getting onto the course?

I can't afford to do A Levels now that i have to pay for them and i'm not sure what i want to do at University so the Access course seems perfect. :frown: I know you aren't supposed to have studied for a level 3 qualification before though.

It shouldn't block you from getting onto the course (people with degrees also do Access courses, if the ywant to change careers), however, because you have an A-Level, you may have to pay for the Access course. I may be wrong but at the college I'm thinking of applying to, that's how it works. It may be different at other places, but it's something you may need to consider, especially as you've mentioned you can't afford to do A-Levels.
Anyone on here hoping to study Psychology at uni, and doing Access to Social Sciences to get there?

I am in my last month of an access course and going on to Psychology at uni in September...all becoming very real.

Just sorting out my final assignment for psychology, which is an experiment, really excited about doing it!

What do you have to do for the experiment? Where are you gonna study Psychology? Did you take the Social Sciences pathway and what was the course like?
