What has your experience of the pbl at peninsula been like overall? I'm still undecided between peninsula and QUB which is mostly traditional rather than pbl

My experience of PBL along with most students has overall been positive.

PBL is a significant but small part of our course and not a learning tool.

PBL sessions are really for consolidation purposes once we have learnt the material and for gaining useful information from your peers and from the facilitator.

All the material for each case unit is learnt in lectures, LSRC, clinical skills and of course self directed learning.

PBL is far better in year two where all the facilitators are doctors and will correct inaccuracies and teach useful nuggets of information.

That is my overall take of it, if you have a specific question though feel free to ask

Who does it in the first year and why are they not correcting inaccuracies !

It is usually biomedical scientists or researchers.

They do correct mistakes, but they specialise in the basic sciences and not so much some of the clinical stuff covered in first year.
Dear Student,

Further to your recent receipt of your campus allocation information, I write to notify you of changes to the accommodation available to you.

Students allocated to Exeter campus for the first two years of study are now eligible to apply for all University of Exeter self-catered accommodation. You are no longer restricted to Rowancroft housing.

We can't change/delete our application once the status changed to *submitted* anyway.. :s-smilie:
Looked at the other accommodation and Rowancroft Mews is still the number 1 contender for price, distance and standard

Its not impossible. I know people who have applied with similar grades in their summer exams and got offers, and some places don't actually look at your As Results, If you can get AAAA overall at As level then you'll definitely have no trouble. If you want to get into alot of places youll need to get atleast a B in a 4th As Level and some want an A. you should also remember that the first As exams are also the easiest and its all uphill from there. So in a word if you get the predicted grades then I couldn't see any reason why not. the majority of people I know will have mostly As but i got AAAB last year, which is now currently AAAA and I got an offer from PCMD. Hope this helps

Good luck.

Get good grades, get lots of work experience and gather lots of things to talk about and good luck hopefully I will be seeing you later down the line.

out of interest why not Plymouth? from what I understand the course is identical.

Remeber Grades are important, but so is your UKCAT and work experience / Interview performance. or at least that's how it was for me this year, could be completely different next year

Thank you

Well I visited Exeter a couple of weeks ago and thought it was nice  Why Plymouth?

How high is the UKCAT cut-off generally for Peninsula/Exeter/Plymouth?

I got AABC for my AS summer exams and managed to get an offer with peninsula this year and I know people who got all As and didnt get any offers, so I dont think its all about having straight As  Although it has taken me lots of hard work this year to bring my grades up to straight As but it is doable!

Neither, Anatomy is predominantly taught through the use of Living Anatomy Models, 3D Plastic models and plastic "prosections" and through the use of Medical imaging.

We have approximately 2 hours of anatomy teaching per case unit. (1 hour of Anatomy teaching lead by our anatomy professors and 1 hour of consultant radiologist lead anatomy teaching via medical imaging)

The resources available in the LSRC for self-directed anatomy learning are second to none, a model of every part of the human body is available including several half life size models which can be taken apart.

Most PBL groups will then consolidate the anatomy relevant to each case unit in PBL feedback sessions.

Anatomy is covered but in order to fully understand and remember it, self directed learning will be needed. (As with every medical school,, regardless of teaching method)
To the exeter lot: is it risky to apply for one accommodation option i.e. Rowancroft Mews?
I've got the opportunity to change my application and might delete Rowancroft (no-name) as a second preference just because I can't afford it..
Not interested in the other halls/houses just because they're so far away from St. Luke's :s-smilie:
They'll probably offer me accommodation early anyway but I don't know if they'd give me my preference just because of that..

I only applied for 1
Fair enough then
