I'd stick with it. It's only a 10 credit module so it shouldn't be overly demanding even if it's not fun. And would it really harm an application for an apprenticeship? A module isn't a qualification as such. I wouldn't even declare it. Plenty of graduates here on TSR are no longer declaring their degrees when going for low paid jobs, so employers won't think they'll leave at the earliest opportunity.

Has anyone attempted 120 credits of science modules at once alongside full time work?

I've been doing 120 credits alongside a fairly demanding job for the last 2 years. Not going to lie, it isn't fun but needs must and all that!

Got a week off for Spring Break at the moment, much needed! After that it's on to Tradition & Dissent in Christianity, followed by the architecture of Pugin (he's in TMA04 so need to pay attention).
Ok, so I don't get refunded if I withdraw from my course. Can I at least suspend it to pick it up at a later date when I feel more ready to do it?

I will probably email OU about this, I'm just going out right now and thought I'd try asking here first.

I start my degree in October, doing History. I'm a bit nervous but I'm glad I don't have to go to an actual university, can't cope with education at the best of times so learning at home is much more helpful for me.

The ironic thing is I want to be a history teacher..

Not to put you off or anything, but I actually find learning at home quite a bit harder. Not that school was much easier, but at least there I didn't get the distractions of TV, unfiltered internet, bed, etc. But I guess everyone is different and I'm just terribly undisciplined, good luck to you :yy:

I've always done my learning a lot easier at home as opposed to in an educational environment, so i'll be perfectly fine. But thank you for the well wishes.

I prefer learning at home too - there isn't so much of the social pressure which I found at brick Universities, I felt like I was being constantly judged by other people and it really had a detrimental effect on my self-esteem. With the OU, I can socialise but I have the barrier of it being on a course forum or at study meets/tutorials when I decide.

Catch you later guys, best of luck with the OU things. Something came up at work and added another ten hours to my week. :unimpressed: Being behind with MST209 and with an EMA due next week for the module that cannot be mentioned, it's not viable to continue, so I knocked it on the head completely.

Hope it all goes well for ya,
Over 'n out

Hi,
Does anyone know what will happen if I fail to submit a tma that cannot be substituted? I'm doing DD306 and this is my last regular tma. I've already gained gained a total of 53.60% towards OCAS. I have written 4 essays (all above 80%) and already used my substitution. Last week I asked my tutor for an extension till tomorrow due to travelling to my home country but I feel terribly tired and emotionally shattered after the journey. I can't concentrate properly and haven't written anything yet. Will I fail this module if I decide not to submit this TMA?

Unless the TMA is compulsory for a pass then you can choose to skip it if you've already got enough marks to pass your module.

Hi Nitebot,

The Assessment Guidance doesn't say that this tma is compulsory. However, it states that it can't be substituted. I've used the assessment calculator and it seems that I only need to get 54% in this tma and 70% in the EMA to get grade 2 pass for the whole module. I'm trying to find some strength to write... :frown:

Hi i am trying to choose between studying in isolation with the Open University under the old fee scheme structure (so will cost me £4700 for the degree),

or studying with Canterbury Christ Church under the new increased University fees (so will cost me a hell of a lot more, but i will get the full University experience). I have to choose within the next few days.

What does everyone think, are the new fees worth it/the Brick University experience worth it?

I need peoples opinions! Thank in advance guys.

In my opinion, definitely not. The OU can be isolated yes but there are tutorials in person fairly regularly, as well as a forum for your course where you can organise to meet up in person for study groups etc. I organised one of these and it's been a great way to make new friends and socialise. Some people add each other on Facebook too.

It honestly comes down to what is more important to you - the cost or the social aspect of studying. You can still get the "University experience" with the OU, as it were.
