C2 Shapes

Could anyone summarise what formulas I need to know for shapes? All I know right now is 2pi r for the circumference of a circle, as well as pir^2 for the area... Also the basic shapes like sector, rectangle and triangle. However in some questions, they give you odd shapes which you have to find the equation of the volume/surface area and I don't know how (but I could probably do the question).

Just go through your book, and see the formulas given there, it will probably cover all the formulas.

I'm on edexcel, they just assume that we know it in the practice questions. I just wanted to get a confirmation on what we need to know and what we don't. I'll just learn all the ones I come across I suppose.

I am also on edexcel, but i can't write a list of formulae, go through the spec it may have it, or ask your teacher.

Otherwise, its best that you go through the book, and see which formulas are used there.

Two more you need to know are:

Arc Length =

r\theta

Area of Sector =

\pi

r^2

\theta

Surface area is just the area of each individual side added up (pretty simple).

Volume = length x height x width. You will have to look at the specific question to work out what is what though. E.g. for question 9 on the 2nd link of your post, it would be arc length x radius x height :smile:

Q8 Is a cuboid ... surely you know the surface area and volume of a cuboid
Q9 is a simple prism
Q10 is a cylinder
Q9 is a cuboid again

A level mathematicians are certainly expected to know the volume of a prism so you should be able to do all of those questions
