Well - they should not....on their website it is said that (paraphrasing)´´we start allocating the rooms as soon as it is practical - start/middle of August´´, so your ´´changed´´ application should be fine (they do not immediately allocate - and even if they did, imagine this: they allocate you a room on the basis of your first application - you cancel it - you no longer have the room...you send another application, they have to process it again and allocate you a room again). However, to put your mind at ease - you can always ask them (I would suggest calling if you want to have an answer ´´right away´´, since they are now quite overloaded with work and it might take up to two weeks for them to answer you - based on personal experience:smile:)....I´d like to ask - I was in a similar position as you, re-thinking priorities and was considering cancelling and applying again, but was not sure whether I could do that. Did you have any kind of troubles during re-applying?

Thank you for your answer  maybe I'll call them to be sure!
I didn't have any issues while re-applying, I did it like 3 times I think  but for the final one, I re-applied 2 weeks after other applications and cancellations and it was still fine. The only thing I noticed was that they didn't ask me to upload my photo again but people on this thread are all saying that it is fine and they must have it in their files anyway !

Right, Ive put UCL as my insurance as well, so I DO need to apply now? What happens to the application if I dont go to UCL in the end?

Yes to the first question - I think the deadline is 31/05/2012 to apply

Nothing, They know you're not going to UCL on results day, that's when accommodation is allocated, you just have to apply now.
So if you make you firm's grade, UCK won't bother finding you somewhere to live, don't worry.

Hi, I'm applying for UCL accomodation and I would like to know which student houses/intercolgiate halls have en suite and are sociable.

Also I was looking at the Connaught Hall and it does have en-suite rooms but says the internet access is limited and for studying only. Internet is an important factor for me so I was wondering if people at this hall can only use it for studying?

I was looking at this accommodation and it said on the UCL site that internet access was "limited and for studying only" my min preference for accommodation is en-suite and internet connection. Anybody at Connaught can tell me if the net connection is actually limited, seems pretty stupid why UCL would do this tbh.

Hey thanks for the fast reply! Unfortunately my faculty (at least what I can gather from the UCL faculty map) appears to be next to Gower Street - i.e. on the other end of UCL. If any current student can confirm the Life Science faculty is indeed there, I'd be much obliged (:

And I'm asking because I wouldn't know about actual conditions over there, like maybe obstructions / best route to take / shortcuts.

Hey - I´m in Life Sciences faculty, too:smile:! (Biological Sciences)...But Gower Street is like 3 minutes walking distance from Bloomsbury (at least that´s what the map says).....

When I was looking for the route I put this as a point B (74 Huntley Street London, WC1E 6BT) - visiting address of Life Sciences, point A being Garden Halls (Hughes Parry - 13 minutes, Cantenbury Hall - 14 minutes)...

Based on these distances (and the prizes of course:smile:) I chose as the first preference Connaught Hall (9 minutes - so hope to get this one!!!!) and the second Hughes Parry....

Yeah I was also very concerned about the Internet, so I did a lot of research on it.

For most intercollegiate halls right now the limit is 14 GB a week, though Connaught and International have upgraded to 35 GB a week. About 20 pages back there is someone from Connaught Hall who confirmed it's now 35 GB, you can go and refer.

When they say "for studying" the rules and regulations stated no obscene stuff, no pornography, no hacking, no piracy, no file-sharing. Streaming movies, videos, legally downloading songs and stuff should be fine, in my opinion. It is stated that "limited non-academic personal use is allowed". I presume the "limited" part refers to the fact that you only have 35 GB a week.

As for what 35 GB actually means in real terms... I used some online calculators, and I will be doing several tests over the course of the next few weeks to determine, but so far according to the calculators, I currently use about 10 GB a month hahaha. One of my tests determined that surfing the web non-stop on full multimedia webpages for 2 weeks (I'm talking leaving the computer on and the pages open 24/7) will use up 20 GB. On this point please ask someone else to confirm what 35 GB can let us do.

You can refer to http://www.halls.london.ac.uk/Default.aspx and open the Residents' Handbook / License Agreements to have a better idea.

And of course they will limit your Internet usage. Do you really want to have a student who plays intensive FPS games non-stop for 48 hours every weekend? Be glad it's not like some New Zealand hostels that switch off the Internet every night at 11 pm.

Hey I'm doing Biological Sciences and my first (and second and third) choice is also Connaught! From all the blogs and pictures uploaded by residents, it sounds like an amazing place (: My second (fourth?) choice is College Hall, because it's even nearer our fac and the service apparently rivals that of a hotel XD

I have currently been using the University of London Housing website and have found a couple of properties, rooms in a house with a resident landlord seem to be the cheapest at the moment. For instance a room in Islington, which is relatively near is possible to rent for £80 pw (hard to tell what you will get for that though!).

Do you know of any residential halls part of UCL that are predominantly postgrad?

Just to say, internet in Astor is da bomb. I use way over 35gb a week and often use many of the sites you listed above and have had no hassle from them for doing so.

Yes, College Hall seems brilliant, but that prize...! Ouch! If I had the money, that´s the one I would go for...

Am currently applying for accommodation and after looking at this hall, I thought it looked pretty decent. However on website it says that internet access in these rooms are 'limited and for studying only' can someone at this hall tell me if thats actually true because it seems kind of silly, internet is one of the most important factors for me also. Also if net is limited would I be able to get full unlimited internet for a fee or something?

I've been looking at this accommodation and after some research I found that some people are saying this is hall is not very social and consists mainly of graduate students.

Anyone at prankerd tell me what its like please? Also on the site it says every room has a computer data point, is this the internet access and is this where i use Ethernet or something (sorry not very knowledgeable about internet connection types)

The data point will be a wired Ethernet port.

Can you please stop creating multiple threads and posts. This is a thread specifically for such inquiries, you don't need to create a new one

Does anyone know if the 'UCL Alumni' discount on holiday letting of the halls applies to current students as well?

Has anyone received confirmation email?

when I filled my application, I put down only one accommodation preference as Student House and didn't choose other options such as Halls, etc for 2nd,3rd preferences as they are so expensive. Does anyone know whether this would make my application invalid? On the websites, it states that all 1st year undergrad will be guaranteed accommodation, does that mean all of us will get a place even if it's not our preference?

Last year no one got confirmation emails I think. Ring them up and check that they have your application if you're worried though.

As long as you submit before 31st May you will be offered somewhere. Whether that "somewhere" is within your budget is another thing altogether... there have been cases in past years where people have been offered places they can't afford. Putting "low cost" as your most important factor may diminish the chances of such happening, though no one can guarantee.

By the way, some student houses are more expensive than halls.
