Functional Group Isomerism - changing of the function group, so from Hexanal to Hexanone etc

Positional Isomerism - movement of the functional group e.g. Hexanone to Hexan-2-one etc

Chain Isomerism - moving from a straight chain to branched chain e.g Hexane to 2-methylpentane

right okay, that makes sense. But When you move from a straight chain to a branch chain are there certain requirements? (i.e. you can only have CH3 on the branches) ..because if you started putting other stuff like C2H5 then this would be wrong because your making a functional group isomer rather than a chain isomer?

^ wait ignore that I'm chatting **&*&&

Thanks DIJIPo.
