Who knows, lol? I was also a little bemused by the fact that it's a white guy singing the song, but a white girl is kissing a black girl in the video. Possibly supposed to be ironic or something? Anyway, the song is pretty cool and you've gotta admit it's a kinda cool anthem for non-black people (male or female!) who like black females :p:

I havent dated or even slept with a black girl yet. Not out of choice, I definetly want to and I came close. I had an amazing connection with a party friend a few years ago, but she was religous and a virgin and she didnt want to date me as she felt she would sleep with me if she did. its kinda simple. if they showed a white guy grabbing and touching and being all sexual with a black girl it wouldnt really go down well.

unless you do media studies or are intelligent enough to have a natural awareness of PR and media then you'd get why they used a women.

the images would of been too sexually aggressive with a man.

also i find it amusing that he says he's not objectifying anyone when the video is debuted on a fashion channel and is featuring a famous danish fashion model. the whole thing reeks of fashion and trends. the trend and fashion here being the pass time of shagging black women. so despite him saying he's not objectifying anyone all signs point to obvious fact that he actually is.

clearly they are a well managed and well financed band as they can afford good and clever enough PR to do the video how they've done it and also to be able to afford say models such as Rie Rasmussen.

Although, I'm a little on the fence about the objectifying comments. I don't really see why it couldn't just be seen as having an innocent preference (like when people say they have a thing for blondes/doctors/bodybuilers/etc) or just appreciating different types of women? Not everyone who dates outside their race is self-hating or looking at their love interests as a fetish.

1. the media markets black women as a commodity. turn on MTV and see all the video vixens. the "ebony" porn industry overshadowed regular porn industry in profit making within the last 10 years. black women are almost certainly being sold as sexual objects.

2. all of the above mentioned can be changed for one thing. a bodybuilder can stop working out and get skinny. a doctor can quit and get a job as a bin man. and a brunette can dye her hair. in terms of politics blondness has always been portrayed as more BEAUTIFUL ever since the creation of aryan supremacy. however calling someone beautiful is different to calling someone sexy. you marry someone who is beautiful. you smash and dash girls who are just "sexy". camera lenses focus on the faces of blondes and the "booty's" blacks. as for doctors and bodybuilders its natural for women to idolise strength whether it be physical strength (bodybuilder) or socio-economic strength (doctor).

3. there is an element of control. many black people in america (as most black britons are patriotic but de-politisized) object to the way their women are sold via white media. as far advanced as we would like to think we are you will notice all the gate keepers of media content are not black. in fact in birmingham cities DRUM centre of black culture and arts (the only one of its kind in europe let alone the uk.) the director of arts and culture is in fact a pakistani man. so what we have here is black people with no say being sold on mass media with a certain image.

4. conspiracy. black people have been treated very differently to every other group in the world. this is largely europe/america's fault (interestingly those two combined make NATO the most powerful military force in the world and are the most affluent places in the world). anyone who does media studies will be familiar with the process of encoding and decoding media. producers encode their media with ideology and the audiences decode the message. now there are many black organisations in america that believe there is conspiracy to reduce the black population. now certainly when you look look at america's policies and treatment of black people in their country it is reasonable to believe, after all america openly admits on its census that black population is estimated to grow by 0.01% by 2050. now this is relevant to the portrayal of black women and men in the media because these black organisations and indeed many black academics in america believe that the mass media is trying to encode their products with influences to black people to either be homosexual or date outside their race. in fact with this knowledge you watch media in a very different way. take 21 jumpstreet that recently came out. i saw black people but none that were a couple. i only saw mixed couples. in fact the only black male dialog in the film who wasn't a girl or ice cube was gay.

now im not saying many people are conscious of their fetishisation of black women. no more than people are conscious of what makes them pick coca-cola over pepsi. but all the elements mentioned above show that all though many men may be moved to want to shag black women they are not moved to care, respect or love black women.

in fact you could for the most part have racist views and ideology but still have sex with a black girl.

you don't have to respect or appreciate black people and their culture to want to shag their women.

i meet many white people who say "i love black men" or "i love black women" but i rarely hear "i love black people". sex and lust seems to be the main driving force of motivation when selecting a black relationship. note even in this old episode of kilroy from waaay back (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kkXogn8Oeo) you will notice that the first thing that the white women who prefer relations with black men mention is sex. and sexual desire.

in fact the only elements involved in the chester french video is sexual. the posturing and behaviour of the white women is aggressive and the black women receptive, minus the gentle guiding of the white womans face to look her way meaning that she "wants her attention". then you have the white womens finger penetrating the black womens mouth. all suggesting sex and indicating the white women as the masculine element.

infact i almost find that white people who frequent relationships with black people often feel under threat and thus become hostile with black people of the same sex. theres even examples of this in the media. take ndubz and note dappy'z narrative in "i swear" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnbW1DM4qrw) and tulisa's narrative in "ouch" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YurZaflJnI).

there is also a distinct lack of respect for black culture in british society. it is seen as a novelty or a joke to take part in black british culture. the only time black british culture is deemed acceptable for whites is when its rebranded as "urban".

so given the uneven playing field of white privilege and black exploitation the whole angle on this changes somewhat. and it is clear that due to history and indeed modern politics that black/white relations are not quite the same as say... white and oriental relations.

so all of these signs point to the motivations of it not being quite innocent. whether the party's involved are conscious of it or not.

now there are exceptions. but exceptions are rare. if anyone has read up until this point assuming that i am not speaking generally then your a moron. there is no way i can know the details of every relationship however i can observe and study cultural and hegemonic evidence.

im aware that many people don't like to think and just let their stomach, genitals and ego drive them. whether or not you wish to be involved, all these political elements involve you.

as for the objectifying bit i'll elaborate a lil. fashion. fashion is clothes, consumables objects. music, a trend, consumable, sold via mp3's and cd's or through live performance, an object.

the video its self is sponsored by karmaloop. a fashion broker. it features two fashion models.

the song is steeped in fashion. the very nature of fashion is that things come in and out of fashion and are disposable. to "have a thing" for black girls is not to different to "have a thing" for skinny jeans or any other fashionable consumable.

i know im going on a bit and i apologise if its going over anyones head but its a very interesting point of research. i am currently involved in a project at uni on the matter. but theres a lot to cover and i dont want to bore you so this is just a beginners taster if you will.
