maybe if

a) the kid was taught that sexually abusing someone is always wrong, and
b) not allowed unregulated internet access at such a young age

then this might not have happened.. also Daily Mail is unbelievable - children are impressionable, yes, yet most children would know that raping someone is wrong. Someone needs to have a serious think about how they have raised their children..

When I was a kid I determinedly tried to break through every barrier placed in front of me by my parents, as do many others.

In addition, many parents lack the skills and knowledge to even be aware of the level and intensity of the threat to their children's emotional wellbeing from the onslaught of commercially produced and non-commercially produced but commercially-incentivised industrial porn.

Yeah, we tried to get round it, and I believe my brother was caught once searching for some porn on the computer in the dining room. But while I agree with pretty much everything you said in this post and your other one. But instead of putting restrictions on porn that over 18s who can make their own individual decision we should be informing parents about the potential dangers and what they can do to stop it.

And a simple solution of only allowing your children access to the internet on a computer in a public room of the house when you are in the house by requiring them to ask you to put in a password on said computer, and either not internet enabling their other devices or not buying them other devices that can access the internet sound very plausible to me. It doesn't require any blocking programs or any specialist knowledge - just a password that is difficult to guess!

Porn can be healthy for adults, and we shouldn't be making these adults jump through hoops in order to do someone's parenting for them. The parents should be able to get help in limiting their kids internet access if they need it - maybe a leaflet or a website with Q&A, seems quite easy and cost effective - but blanket restrictions are unnecessary.

Just to add to this, even if the parents don't want to have to be present every time the child is on the computer, blocking programs are not all that difficult to setup. Many internet providers offer them.

This thread is kind of ridiculous. Just because one child did something means that porn negatively affects all children who watch it? I won't disagree that porn can have negative effects, such as desensitizing, but it does not always have that effect. But how does this not come to the parents? Shouldn't they have taught the child that rape is not something that is acceptable? Shouldn't they have limited or watched his use of the internet? Porn in and of itself did not cause this, it was a combination of things.

Hmm, a child saw something on the internet and decided to copy it. This is clearly the fault of those who made said material available to the otherwise sane and sensible public - the insane child and its completely useless, incompetent parents can't be at fault at all! We can't expect parents to be responsible for educating their children about basic moral decision making! Kids should just be fed good information over the internet for them to brainlessly imitate without actually having to consider the concepts of right and wrong!

The fact that this boy abused this girl more than once speaks volumes to me. In my opinion, this boy will go on to commit sexual offences again. It's absolutely ridiculous to consider that internet porn was behind his actions.

Although saying that, the 9 year old girl understanding that sex leads to a baby "in her tummy" seems strange to me as well. I can only assume that being a child has changed significantly since my childhood, as at 9 years old I don't recall knowing what the physical act of sex actually was, never mind it leading to a baby in my tummy!

I was told by my mother that babys came from two people that love each other and had a long 'hug'. lol not a massive lie I guess, and I thought this until I had sex education in year 6.


I was told that babies were bought from the hospital. It made sense at the time, because every baby weighs a certain amount of pounds, and to me pounds = money.

I did however know about the fact that pregnant women would have a lump on their stomach, which would contain a baby

Most of the male students in my year group watch pornography regularly. However, they do not behave in an inappropriate manner in front of females, nor do they attempt to abuse them.

No, rapists are turning into rapists, porn if anything facilitates some sexual outlet for men and women who do not currently have access to regular sex.

A new rule for the forums I think should be considered:

If your post links only to the Daily Mail/any red-top, and the thread opens with a sweeping generalization on the moral integrity of the country, the thread gets deleted and the poster gets banned for 24 hours to rethink the direction their life is taking.

It's not the thread, it's the Daily Mail's take on it that is ridiculous. (Let's make it clear from the off: I agree with you). However, the problem is that while The 'Daily Mail' and the 'Sun' sell four and a half million copies between them each day, the public who receive those intellectually dishonest viewpoints are going to form limited views on issues such as these. And, as you say, there is often no one cause, and trying to state that porn > rape is rather silly.

I'm pretty sure I recall reading somewhere that rape is actually less common in parts of the world where porn is readily available. I might be wrong, though.
why do you think porn is absolutly free on the internet. its because there are people who want to corrupt and preoccupy you with your desires and turn the population into animals who dont think and just become consumers, and follow their desires while they can more control over your life and your mind and hence over the entire world. as the desires increase the logical intelligent mind weakens.

I can't think of one person I know that doesn't watch porn and guess what? They haven't gone out and raped anybody.

Why is the Daily Mail allowed to still exist?

The problem in childhood nowadays is everything is sexualised.. Look at some of the clothes children wear nowadays.. Sex is everywhere for children and they have to feel grow up.. As I child I never wanted to grow up.. I loved waking up on a Saturday and watching the cartoons in the morning.. Such as scooby doo.. I turned it on the other day as I had one of my mums friends child round (babysitting) and even that had now become sexualised.. Velma chasing after shaggy all the time and wanting to be with him.. I had to switch it off.. The media is now awful too.. Five year olds having to absolutely love people like one direction and Justin Beiber... And the disney channel? OMG!! Everyone has to sing and dance and model and wear the shortest skirts and the shortest dresses!! Then the places that actually advertises stuff like this such as the daily mail and the sun are all up in arms when something like this happens? It was expected for ages and I'm sure it's bound to get a lot worse as childhood is no longer childhood anymore it's just oppression to look good!!! Children as young as 5 are now worried about their appearance!!! At five you should be worrying whether you're friends will still be friends with you tomorrow because you said something they didn't like in the playground at break time today not worrying about their weight and their appearance!!! This country's children will be getting worse before it gets anywhere near better.. I feel very sorry for the future generations of children!!

While 12 year olds watching porn is wrong because they are too young etc. etc. they are old enough to know right from wrong. This kid obviously has issues with the difference between reality and fiction.
