Really worried my disability will get in the way :/

I'm due to start Nursing at UoM this september and i'm sooo happy I got a place :biggrin:

I really want to be a nurse as it's my ambition and I have a huge interest in it, but I know that the course is going to be far from easy.

I have to undergo a full health check before I can go on the course and i'm so worried about failing it! Has anyone had to undergo a health check before starting their course? If so what was it like?

I currently recieve middle rate care and low rate mobility DLA for my heart and circulation condition and I am prone to collapsing, though i'm on medication to control it as best I can and i'm waiting for a pacemaker. I'm worried the course wont be able to make allowances for me, especially on placements and things. But then I know they aren't allowed to discriminate.

GAH i'm so happy and yet so confused about this, what if i struggle?

If they can justify it, (such as your safety or that of others) it's not discrimination.
I see, but would they realistically do that?

I guess i'm just thinking the worst, and hoping that they give me a chance anyways.

They have to make 'reasonable adjustments' to ensure you are not treated any less fairly than a nondisabled person. If they refuse to do this, its discrimination.
So, they HAVE to make adjustments for you as long as its not impossible or unreasonable to expect them do so. In other words, expecting them to reconstruct a whole building is unreasonable, for example, but not much else is.
I highly doubt you'll have any issue, especially considering the nature of the course, and the Equality Act 2010 means they have to make adjustments to ensure you can operate the same as everyone else within that environment.

No advice at all, but I wanted to say that I know how you feel. I'm so delighted that I've got an offer for medicine, but terrified that I won't be able to do it/cope etc. Have you contacted the disability advisors and course specific advisors if they have that at your uni? I've arranged to meet with them and talk through things and hopefully that will help a bit.

Have you spoken to your GP and specialist about your suitability for the course? Would be good to have them supporting you.
