Ah yes, however... the USSR could have held itself together by force if it had wanted to... In many ways, Gorbachev allowed it to break up...

Anyway... the CIS still exists... so technically... the USSR is mostly still together :p:

The Baltic states would have sought all out civil war at that point and the Eastern European nations would have sought a policy separate from the USSR altogether. This would have just lead to an even harsher reality considering the economic and social state the USSR was in at that time. The people of the then Russian Socialist Republic themselves were quickly becoming fed up of the USSR itself, hence the widespread support for Boris Yeltsin. To think that the USSR was not on a collision course at that point is either neivety or wishful thinking.

Also the CIS is an even looser association than our own Commonwealth of Nations, plus it doesn't contain Ukraine as a member state despite Ukraine's loose involvement.

Indeed, however to claim that it would have broken up by now regardless is still mere conjecture

It exists, nonetheless...

Brazil!!!!

As like the flag of Brazil is one of the most popular flag. I don't know exactly what the meaning of yellow rhombus in there is, but I have read long time ago it has the meaning of gold which was a productive natural resource before Portuguese settlers/navigators discovered and conquered Brazil. Is that right?

Just like the colours don't really have a clue of the meaning behind the flag.

Never mind, google is my friend! the green color symbolizes the jungles of Brazil whereas the yellow rhombus symbolizes a range of natural resources. But the true meanings date from dynasties and nobilities. Green stands for House of Braganza, a former Portuguese aristocratic family, and yellow stands for House of Habsburg, an European dynasty.

As far as I know its the constellation of Christianity, but I'm not sure. The 27 stars in there stands for 26 states and federal district of Brazil.

There are people employed by LOCOG going around Greenwich Park doing face painting of flags. Watch them run away when the Kazakhs come around.

Obviously not a countrys flag but I find it quite epic tbh.
