Momentum M1



Could anyone explain why the direct of motion is unchanged? If the answer for the velocity is negative and we took the right side to be positive then surely the direction of motion is changed and our original "guess" for velocity to be the right is incorrect and should instead be to the left, so it's motion is reversed?

the arrow for v for the 5kg mass is wrong [don`t assume anything from the diagram]

- if the final speed of B is -1, that means that it`s SPEED is 1m^2, but is DIRECTION is opposite to +ve. (it`s still going in the same direction it was) - remember speed is the magnitude of velocity
