Hello everyone : hope everyone is good and well  , please could I have an opinion on which is better out of AS economics or AS geography. In terms of better I mean which is easier in relation to workload and difficulty. The dilemma is that I didn't do gcse geography or gcse economics, but I want to pick one for AS. I have chosen science and maths for the other subjects: so would geography complement science as I want to do pharmacy or economics complement maths. I like both specifications and syllabuses , but which is easier for a higher mark : I do edexcel geography and aqa economics. Thank you everyone

AS Economics presumes no prior knowledge of economics so it shouldn't matter that you haven't done GCSE Economics. AS geography, however, does presume that you have some prior knowledge of geography so in that respect, economics may be easier. However, most of the people who I know who do both subjects seem to find geography easier so in that respect, geography could be easier (but it's important to remember that people have different opinions; some other people who I know find economics easier). For pharmacy, as long as you have chemistry (and biology in some cases), it should be fine so either subject is OK to take. So are you more interested in one subject than the other? If so, take the subject that you have a greater interest in and then you'll likely find it easier and do well in it

So would Biology,History,Economics and law just for AS be good combo for law at uni?

I think that sounds like a good combination. Remember, there are no specific A-Level requirements for law, although History does seem to be one they're keen on. As for the rest, just do what you enjoy! They usually like 2 traditional essay subjects, but I think you're covered with law and history. Biology will provide a nice contrast and economics is also good for law as they're both (to a degree) about current affairs :h:

Cheers for the advice.
Hey everyone one again  , I am on AQA chemistry and was interested in finding which is better the EMPA or ISA route for A- level. I know the Isa is : drawing graphs, and course content. Also it has some annoying quantitative mark scheme answers, but I found shocking and disgraceful was the insanely high grade boundaries where 65% could be an E grade. On the other hand empa harder and needs good practical skills and hard mathematical calculations, but very low grade boundaries. So overall which is better to choose Option to choose out of the 2 please????? ( I wish that aqa would lower isa grade boudaries to roughly same as isa to make it fair and even ). Thank you

There are mixed opinions towards the two. I haven't really looked at AQA A-Level chemistry in too much detail (I'm more knowledgeable on the OCR Salters course), so I could be wrong but I've heard that the ISA is not particularly challenging to score a high mark on. But then of course, grade boundaries are very high which could lead to marks like 80% being something like a C. If you often make silly mistakes but are good at experiments/maths etc. then maybe the EMPA would be the better route than the ISA. Or you could try both. Maybe have a go at the ISA first and if that doesn't work out, have a go at the EMPA instead
Hey Guys, I really need some help!

I am considering taking 5 subjects at AS Level, i wasn't originally planning to, but there is 5 i want to take and i can't decided which subject not to take.

3 of the 5 i definitely want to take are: Law, Psychology and English.
But then i want to take either Geography or History. I really can't decided which to take and which not to take though!?

If it's any help, i want to go on to study Law at University. I have lots of pros and cons to both Geography and History, i don't know what to do. Not taking English is also an option. But i really don't know what would be best. Opinions on the subjects i am considering taking, or advice, or past experiences are much appreciated.

Please help!
Thanks

Ok I plan to do
-Physics
-History
-Biology
-Maths/Chemistry

Which is harder/more interesting out of Maths and Chemistry?
I enjoy both equally and I am at the same ability in each.

I can't speak for chemistry as I don't do it, but I love maths, so much so that I will be studying it next year at university...hopefully haha! Yep, it is challenging but not impossible if you're dedicated. In my opinion I would Physics is a lot harder than maths. Hope this helps

5 subjects is a lot of work and taking five won't really give you any advantage over other people. There are no specific subject requirements for law so it shouldn't really matter whether you take history or geography. I'd advise you to take the one that you think you'll enjoy more. You're more likely to do well in a subject that you enjoy

Law A-Levels aren't really held in high regard with universities, even if you are hoping to do a law degree- the reasons being that it often gives A-Level students a different way of thinking/ the wrong knowledge needed for university level which often puts law A-Level students at a disadvantage. (I was interested in the same thing, although my sixth form is so small it doesn't offer A-Level subjects like Law anyway...) Universities also like law students to have developed other skills such as what would be gained with english etc and not to be too specialised in law. Hope this was useful- just sharing my knowledge!!:biggrin::biggrin:

It shouldn't be too late to subjects. Speak to your head of Sixth Form
Chemistry or Further Maths ,Maths, Physics and History any advice or opinions?

To study what at university?

They are very solid subjects and would cover a lot of courses. The choice between Chemistry and F. Maths depends on what you're looking to do.

Contact your 6th form ASAP. It would make any timetable or class adjustments much easier to sort out.

If you are going to study law then you need Geography, History and English Literature. I would then pick psychology over law. Law isn't a well thought of subject at A level, and Universities would actually prefer other subjects (believe it or not!)

Also what job could you do with
-Maths

You need chemistry to study medicine.

You could do a lot of courses with those subjects (if you get good grades). They are therefore good choices if you're unsure.

The courses you couldn't do would be: chemistry, anything relying on chemistry (e.g. Biochem, medicine, denistry), Maths and Physics at top Unis (you would need further maths), and languages/ linguistics.
I'm really interested in Nutrition and Dietetics and am seriously considering taking it at a University (At the moment I'm thinking Surrey) but I need some help with my A Level Choices.
I've picked:
Sport Science
Biology
Chemistry
History

However, I've looked at the Food Tech course and it looks like exactly what I want to do but I heard it's not looked very highly upon by top Universities. Can someone give me advice on what to do? Perhaps there are some other qualifications I can do alongside these subjects?

Your current choices are very good if you're looking to get into a good university.

If you like the look of the Food Tech course then do it in addition (do it as well) to your other subjects. Picking it instead of one of those subjects would be shooting yourself in the foot.

Alternatively, you could look for a placement/ work experience that is relevant or linked to Nutrition and Dietetics.
