Sometimes I feel like Britian is a dump and has got worse the last few years.

We're a nation of snobs, chavs, and drunks. Everyone is on the make, recruitment consultants, bankers, property developers, all trying to shaft each other. If you are not rich or connected you are frowned upon, everyone is vulgar.

We're got drunks and yobs everywhere and dog **** on the streets too.

Britians feels like a strange place a lot of the time to me. I've been overseas a lot of some places are much better.

This is my opinion too, I have spent many years reclusive because of the **** hole Britain has become. After a lot of time to think I have come to the conclusion that it is the people that makes a place worth living.
Lol, i can't stop laughing at this.

I will be honest part of the reason why I want to emigrate is because of what you've mentioned. The social issues here disturb me, not to mention that the uk is one of the most unequal societies in the developed world, right after the US.

I don't hate it here in fact what I love about it most is the high standard of living and that there are so many awesome people here. Just that I live in a not so nice area with not so many nice people and that can really effect your outlook on life. When you see people hurting each other, stabbing, screwing people over the most pointless things it really does do your head in after a while. I'm really shocked at the amount of people even in the working class that see education as a "rich white peoples" thing, I've had people tell me that.

I wasn't taught much in school in fact it was a terrible school, one of the worst around. I was forced to drop history and languages in my gcse years, and I've only just realized how important those subjects are now. They are necessary for understanding how the world works today. No wonder people are so ignorant about politics do most even know what's going on? How can we know what's going on if we don't even know what Socialism, Capitalism, Communism etc means??

You know when the riots happened, it did not surprise me. Most were looting for money, there's a get rich or die trying mantra on the streets here. Many believe they can only get rich by doing illegal things e.g drug selling! Education is not valued as much, I know there are some really good rappers such as Akala, Plan B etc trying to get more kids into reading and history. But its hard work when the kids you're targeting are only interested in what's on mtv and being the next "gangster" rapper, getting rich quick etc. Not only that but I'm surprised at how the media uses immigration, chavs and people on benefits as scapegoats to mask the real problems. Its like adding more salt to the wound, blaming others wont help anyone will it. These people we call scum and make fun of are also just products of the nasty environments they happened to be born in. All this has just added to my dismay. This is a country where being born in a certain area can have a huge impact on your life, its like one big trap. If you come out ok in the end you're lucky, but some people have been ruined. Think about all those highly capable intelligent minds wasted.

I only see the negatives because I'm surrounded by it, and the only way to get out of it is to emigrate the heck out. Or go live in a richer area...but that wont happen since my degree definitely wont guarantee me a high paying job. I'd rather teach English in a third world country.

If I have to stay in the UK I'd probably choose Scotland to live in to be honest, it's got lots of beautiful space, and a low population, if you can avoid the Glasgow area it's nice in many parts.

England is really the main problem, and I say that as an English person.

Places like Australia are just as ridiculously expensive as the UK but other than that miles better.
Society could be considerably worse, all you have to do is look around the world.

Britain is certainly not perfect but you and I are nothing but fortunate to live here.
Believe me, there are terrible societies everywhere, not just in the UK. Having lived in other countries too I can definitely say that no country is perfect, after living somewhere for a while you will always find something to complain about.
You don't realize what you've got until its gone. Try leaving Britain and you'll soon see why its one of the greatest nations on the planet.

Well yes, grass is often greener on the other side. And nobody is saying that there any many worse places to live in the world. But Britain is a country now inexorable condemned to a steep decline, certainly economically, and almost certainly culturally. After all, and strong economy is dependent upon how people live their lives and spend their money.

The problem is currently where one might live in Britain. Some people live in areas still relatively unpolluted by bad government policies, including the politicians themselves, which comes as no surprise - though I imagine that these areas will soon succumb to a similar fate belong, as you cannot shield them forever. These things seem to spread like a cancer, a bit like how the underclass now seem to manage to find their way into every nook and cranny of the country.

But if you live, like I do, in what has been polled as one of the most underdeveloped areas of the country, where industries were once abound but are now completely absent, and has been replaced by nothing, except an increase in multiculturalism through mass immigration, then things are not so peachy. Combine that with the fact that British people have largely themselves to blame by abandoning the principles of duty and community to one another, and permitting the government encroach silently upon civil liberties due to apathy and ignorance. Who was it who said that "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance?". Well, the average British citizen took their eye off the ball many decades ago and accepted the vision of a Brave New World.

Where do you live out of interest? I also live in an industrial estate in Manchester you see, and also spent some time in Moss Side which used to be known for a high crime rate. Both areas have high immigration levels, but thats what I love about it. Its amazing that I have friends from all over the world and can share so many different cultures. The government here is Labour, and from memory, its always has been. They do the best to ensure that people live their lives in a reasonable manner. Certainly there is crime, and bad places and its sometimes unsafe at night, but if you're clever about it, you'll be fine. Why shouldn't the 'Underclass' be allowed to live where ever they want? Just because they don't earn as much money, doesn't mean they're all thieves and criminals. In fact, the biggest criminals are the richest in society, the banks, who lost billions of people's money. I think your comments are not really fair, and I don't really see your point. Do you think that in America/Germany/Spain they live in some sort of utopia? No. These countries all have a class system and all have the rich and the poor and those in poverty. One of the factors which makes Britain greater than these is the fact that we have free health care, so people born into poverty who have illness' can receive treatment. In America, they require insurance, so someone born into poverty with cancer for example, if their parents were unemployed, they'd have to sell the house and take out huge loans to afford the treatments, ensuring that the family stays in poverty, in Britain that doesn't happen and we help our citizens. Thats the country I want to live in.

In canada I find people are much more friendly. In the UK most people seem depressed and there is a lack of common courtesy nowadays. I plan to move to Ontario after my university. However Britain is not a bad company but does seem to be "sinking". I also believe the country has less of a future for my children than other western countries such as Canada due to the vast overpopulation. I mean Britain has 62,641,000 people whereas Canada which is the second largest country in the world has 34,482,779 people. Britain is 244,800 km² large in comparison to Canada which is 9,985,000 km².
For people talking about how British people talk less than other people, personally I'd prefer this than having to talk with someone constantly.

we are the most sarcastic, moany, pessimistic and unfriendly people in the world, and I love it  I have no idea why I would ever want to leave.

For anyone, it is terrible.

- Hatred is so rife between class, racial and religious boundaries.
- 50% income tax on higher income earning individuals
- The majority of British women tend to have terrible personalities. Note i said personalities, not specifically looks. They look down on the men and especially along class boundaries their prejudice is apparent, even more so than racial based discrimination.
- Nanny state subjects who hate all that are not the same as them. Whether they are from a different area of the country (north v south divide, divide amongst regions themselves)
- The weather.
- Northern Ireland (A God awful place filled with some of the most detestable people i have ever had the displeasure of witnessing, mostly chronically drunk individuals). I seriously don't know why people are so bothered about that place.
- Delusions of grandeur. Well, unless you're upper class, as a Brit you were just as oppressed as many subjects of the conquered territories in the Empire, your own leaders saw you as vagrant underclass sub humans if you were not one of them (back in the days of the empire). So, there.

The only area which makes this UK worthwhile to live in is it's academics. This country does still retain some of the world's best.

And yes, i will gladly let the door hit me on the way out. It can't be worse than remaining here thats for sure.

The UK has a major problem with class warfare. It has never had a class based revolution before as far as i know, and it shows.

Actually, we had 2... the problem is that nothing really changed... which I guess means that, ultimately, they weren't revolutions...
