I might be being shortsighted here but where does it say on the website that there might be an advocacy exercise?

It appears I imagined it :-s must have been another chambers sorry I'm going a bit mad with this process (who isn't!) Ok so does anyone know what to expect in a 3pb interview? Thanks in advance

did one last year at Bournemouth - it was an ethics question that you had 15 mins to prep and then they asked application questions

Interview offer from Walnut House by email today
Hi - has still no one heard from 15NBS? I rang them about 5 weeks ago and the lady in charge told me she would be sending invites the next week, since then I haven't managed to get back through to her. Anyone had more information? Thanks.
Anyone heard from Unity Street Chambers in Bristol yet? Their deadline was 31st August...
Does anyone know/know anyone who may know what sort of format to expect at a Walnut House interview?

I interviewed there last year, the first round is fairly standard. Wasn't given an exercise, but had a few questions linked to current affair issues... what do you think of the HRA and what law would you change etc. Then questions on my CV.
Don't forget to refer to them as 'The Nut House', everyone else does.

Thank you! It is so much nicer going into them having some clue as to what to expect!

George, listen to this advice. One of the key aspects an interviewer will look for is how you cope under pressure. If you go in there nervous, shaking and incoherent, it'll damage your application. Most 2nd round interviews (from what I've learned stalking this thread) are based around advocacy related to their specialist areas - bail applications, mitigating pleas etc. So just relax, read over the stuff you learned on your BPTC and hope for the best.

Ha! Calm the heck down, I agree. I am a pretty calm interviewee and think before I speak minus shaking and nerves. I wandered in here and there is a sense of anxiety that got me nervous. I am aware from previous final rounds that they make these things something that you can't really prep for. It is so subjective to the day of interview that you just have to be calm, collected and THINk before speaking. Luckily I dont sweat under pressure otherwise I would be on the old betablcokers I have heard rumors about. It does seem that it is either case analysis, bail or plea in Mit. So I am just keeping myself calm and collected and perhaps, wondering if bribery will work! They have asked me to arrive half an hour before an hour long interview to examine some papers. So might be advocacy, or might be to see how well I digest a brief in a short amount of time! Time will tell! Cheers! George

The reality of life at the criminal bar (crime is strong at winch 3PB) is that you turn up at Mags Court, get the AD and, if lucky, get 30 mins with the lay client. You may not be so lucky and may just have a quick whisper outside his cell for 3 mins. They need to see you can cope with such a situation in practice. If you mess it up, whatever 'it' may be, you will most probably have time to discuss it in the interview- show them you understand mistakes were made, what they were, why they were made and what you would do to rectify them for the future. Nobody does a perfect interview, and if they do i cant' imagine chambers would want them. People are interviewing you to see if you are the person they want to have to work with for the foreseeable future. Amongst everything else, have a personality and in the words of Bernie Richmond; be yourself as you will soon slip out of the person you are trying to be.

Best of luck!!
