omg im stressing!
Been ill with CFS since january, planned to get revision strated by the end of february as i worked out iv got 9 exams in the summer. But suddenly time has flown by and now its nearly April!!

My exams are:
BIOLEMPA APRIL
Biolunit 1(may) (3rd time resitting so wont need to revise that tooo much)
Psych unit 1(may)
English lang unit 1 (may)
Biology unit 2 (june)
English language unit 3 (june)
Psych unit 2 (june)
Psych unit 3 (june)
Psych unit 4 june)

Anyone got any suggestiona on how i should organise my time and how i can effectively revise for them ,pleaaase?! im so stressed out ,heads gonna EXPLODE!

Well i think you should start from your weakest. I've got 8 exams myself(2bio,3chem and 3psych) and its hard but i started with chemistry cause that my weakest.
secondly, if you know your time table, make sure YOU DO NOT LEAVE THE LAST EXAMS(A2) AND REVISE THEM AT LAST MINUTE(did this got a C&E).
if your a person that can follow time table, you can focus on each subject each week.
for example:
week1: Biology
week2: psych
Week3: english.
do this and rotate the cycle or change every 3 days.
But always work on your weakest subject or unit first or else you start panicking at the last minute.
Good Luck!!!

Thank you
I would be in the same situation as you right now, but luckily my school pays for our remarks.

I think it's worth a go. If your mark does come back lower, you can always resit in the summer

I know. I think I'm going to go for it. Will be devastated if its lower and I've paid that money :frown:

Im a current year 13 student who is studying psychology at A2-Level. If you need any help with this exam in terms of revision or understanding, please feel free to message me as I achieved an A. Good luck

Hey, I am currently revising for the AQA (B) Psychology AS unit 1 exam in May and I am unsure whether I have to be prepared to write an essay for the biopsychology approach? I've seen in past papers that they've asked to outline and evaluate the methods used to identify cortical specialisation, but I'm not 100% sure if its required to outline and evaluate the approach in general :/ Thank you!
Hey guys,
I wrote these revision notes in preparation for the unit 1 exam in january 2013, I've covered most of the objectives in the specification/topics, but the headings in bold are ones that i just included but haven't actually written any notes for. I just thought it might be a useful template for organizing your revision notes, in case you needed help. It covers all the topics were supposed to know for developmental & cognitive psychology and research methods. But, once again I haven't written revision notes for all the headings, so maybe you can finish the notes off.

p.s caution: there's no pictures, just plain black and white notes

detailed revision notes for unit 1.rtf

Hope they're useful
here's a list of potential 12 markers that could come up for cognitive & developmental psychology:

Cognitive (Memory):
1. Outline and evaluate the multi-store model of memory. (12)
2. Outline and evaluate the working model of memory. (12)
3. Outline and evaluate models of memory. (12)
4. Outline and evaluate what research has told us about misleading information and the accuracy of EWT (eye-witness testimony). (12)
5. Outline and evaluate what research has told us about anxiety and accuracy of EWT. (12)
6. Outline and evaluate what research has told us about age of witness and accuracy of EWT. (12)
7. Outline and evaluate what research has told us about EWT. (12)
8. Outline and evaluate what research has told us about the factors affecting the accuracy of EWT. (12)
9. Outline and evaluate what psychologists have told us about the use of cognitive interviews in improving accuracy of EWT. (12)
10. Outline and evaluate strategies for memory improvement. (12)

Developmental (Attachment):
1. Outline and evaluate the learning theory explanation of attachment. (12)
2. Outline and evaluate Bowlby's theory of attachment. (12)
3. Outline and evaluate explanations of attachment. (12)
4. Outline and evaluate what research has shown about types of attachment. (12)
5. Outline and evaluate the use of the Strange Situation in attachment research. (12)
6. Outline and evaluate what research has shown about cultural variations in attachment. (12)
7. Outline and evaluate what research has shown about the failure to form attachment (privation). (12)
8. Outline and evaluate what research has shown about the effects of institutional care on attachment. (12)
9. Outline and evaluate the impact of different forms of day care on children's levels of aggression. (12)
10. Outline and evaluate the impact of different forms of day care on children's peer relations. (12)
11. Outline and evaluate how research into attachment and day care has influenced child care practices. (12)

that was long...okay i also just wanna add that the term 'outline' refers to describing a study AND/OR studies that were done and you should ensure that you describe the study/studies briefly and focus mainly on the results and outcome of the experiments/investigations. Outlining studies should only cover 6 of the marks. And then 'evaluating' refers to outlining the strengths and weaknesses of the experiment, whether it had high/low ecological validity or high/low internal validity. Also, as well as stating the strengths and weaknesses and elaborating on them, you should also give examples of other studies who may have challenged the study you were describing.
Also both my psychology teachers have told us numerous times that focusing on one study rather than 2 or 3 (more than one) is better because you can give a more detailed account of the study and are more likely to evaluate it better.

In preparation for my jan exam in 2013, I answered all of the 12 markers and did a lot of past papers and got an A. So focused and detailed revision pays off!!!

Hope this was useful...

Who's resisting this?
First time I got 6/12 in my essay, then 7/12.
It's all about AO2 points which are so easy to forget.
Remember PEEE (point, evidence, explain, evaluate!!)

Don't forget the L. PEEEL. L stands for link back to question. It may sound terribly repetitive but always have that one sentence that links your point back to the question. It keeps you from going off on a tangent.
Btw lads and ladettes, if you need help with understanding or anything with AS AQA Psychology A then don't hesitate to message me

Hey, was wondering if you could clear something up for me.
This will probably sound very stupid but is it essential to use studies when evaluating in the exam (on the 12 markers)? As I've heard different things.

For example on the question 'Outline and evaluate the multi-store model of memory 12 marks' I've seen people's evaluation responses (for weaknesses) including things such as the model lacking ecological validity, the model being simplistic and the role of rehearsal and it's actual importance, but not actually any studies being mentioned!

So is it possible to gain the full 6 marks for evaluation without actually mentioning any specific studies?

Thanks

Yeah it is. At least that is what I did. With AS you can get away with not having any studies that support/refute. However, it's nice to have at least one research that refutes/supports; cause you could run out of neutral AO2 points. Doesn't matter if you don't remember researcher's names.
As long as you've got the point then you should be fine. You could always say "research has shown", "research found that" "studies/a study have/has been carried out into" and so on. I have survived on that; even onto A2!
