So you're going to be a pharmacist? Nope.
So can you make drugs? Yep
Will you give me any? Nope.

Since I live in the Netherlands, studying English is sometimes seen as useless. But usually, people ask:
"So you want to become a teacher?"
Studied English Literature and Theatre Studies.

"So, you want to be an actress?"

Wtf? No.
"So, can you read my mind?" Just no.

Me: I'm studying Computer Networks and Security
Them: Oh, I'll come to you when I have internet issues then!
Me: Sure you will, you and the other endless list of people that have given that identical response.

Just saying, we're not fixing your home connection. However, I will attempt to fix networking/security issues in your company for a reasonable price!
I was sitting next to an old lady on the tube and to start the conversation she commented on how nice my sixth form uniform was.
When she asked and I proceeded to tell her that I wanted to study engineering, she gasped, grabbed my arm, looked into my eyes with a big grin and said "Yes!"

Probably the best response I've ever had.
Haven't even started yet (Popular Music BA) and I've already had

'How can you get a degree in Music?'
'What's the point in that?'
'But music isnt even a real subject?'

It's cool though, nothing I havent been subjected to since choosing Standard Grade Music in S3...
Me: Comparative Literature.
Them: So... English?
Me: *sigh* Yeah, kinda.
Me: Pharmacy

Them: So just a Glorified Shopkeeper then?

Or sometimes now 'So are you going to help England win the World Cup then?' (or replaced with whichever current sporting team isn't doing brilliantly...)
"Prove it, what's 28,483,982 divided by 58,483?"

English usually gets a "what do you want to be, a teacher or something?"
An economist told me: "that sounds boring".

"Oh. With those grades?! Why not audiology or become a doctor? What a waste!" <- popular teacher response
"You'll be that person in the corner of the telly at 3am doing this *waves arms about*!" <- popular student response

I want to do BSL Sign Language interpreting.
The amount of people trying to put me off it is amazing. Truly incredible. XD "But, you'll be working with Deaf people!?" "I'm Deaf." "Yeah but they're kinda scary aren't they?" O.O"

I think its so amazing you do BSL, that's something I've always wanted to do since my mum did a year of it years ago! My uni offers it as a free choice unit and if I don't drop out, I'll be thrilled to do it even for just a semester!

**** what everyone else says, I think its such a shame more people aren't interested in it and they're obviously incapable of sign themselves, hence why they think they can belittle it
