Hey I'm applying for Child Nursing at uni of bham, uni of manchester, uni of Salford, uni of wolverhampton and BCU. I'm so nervous though because it is so competitive and i'm worried i won't even get an offer :'( anyone else feel the same?

I certainly felt the same - when applying for uni and the job I have now - and i can guarantee you're not the only one feeling like this now. It is competitive, so make sure you have a backup plan of what you will do if you aren't successful. Good luck :smile:

What kind of stuff did you have in your personal statement that you think got you an offer? Did you do A Levels? If so which subjects and what were your predicted grades? Lol sorry for all the questions but I'm starting to get really nervous because of how fierce the competition is :'(

Universities will expect some form of care experience, however this doesn't have to be within a hospital setting as they understand how tricky it can be to get that experience (As you are finding!)

Hi!

I'm sorry, but I don't disclose my university, to keep the location of my placements confidential.

The key with personal statements is to show that you truly understand the role of a children's nurse. Many applicants don't understand what we do, but you need to show good understanding of this. Also, you need to make sure you explain what skills/qualifications you have and how these will benefit you as a nursing student. Only mention the work experience you have that is most relevant, but don't forget standard retail jobs can still have transferable skills (E.g. working with the public, communication skills etc)

I started doing A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Psychology and ICT, but after a poor first year (Most of which was down to my college, and not me), I switched Biology and Chemistry, and did an accelerated version of a two year BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Science, in one year and carried on with Psychology and ICT. Overall, I got two Cs and a Distinction for the BTEC. I'm sorry, but I can't remember what I was predicted!!! It was four years ago! But your predicted grades only matter so much. If your personal statement and interview is good, but say you miss out on the predicted grades by one grade in one subject, they might well let you off and still offer you a place based on a good interview :smile:

Hey! I'm hoping to apply for children's nursing this year, but the only experience I've got so far is working with special needs children once a week and I have a placement at a nursery twice a week, I'm really worried that I haven't got enough experience as I know it's a competitive course any tips on any small extra things is can do or ways I can enhance my personal statement?

Hi

I'm also applying for Child Nursing for September 2016 entry. I sent my application off on Thursday - I've applied to Nottingham, Keele, QUB and Surrey for Child Nursing and then Southampton for Dual Adult and Child Nursing.

I'm absolutely terrified - I'm on track to achieve the academics, I have lots of relevant experience and an apparently strong personal statement but it's just so notoriously competitive that I'm at the point where I'm sure I'll get five rejections!

OMG, I'm worried about how everyone is telling me that to get a place for child nursing is competitive. I am also applying for child nursing for the 2016 entry. The only experience I have is I had block placements at 3 different nurseries and a care home. I am definitely worried now!

For your PS, you have to say WHY you enjoy working with children and any kind of personal stories as to why it intrigued you to do child nursing. Just thoroughly explain how your personality, skills and personal experiences are going to benefit you for this course and the career you're choosing. Hope it helped. Good Luck!
