The Antecs which come with cases arent as good as the Antec's you buy seperatly. As far as I remeber, that one has about 18A on the +12v rails which is the minimum I am recommending for new builds.

It should be fine, as long as youre not planning on stacking a load of hard disks in there, filling every PCI slot and overlocking the thing to hell.

http://www.antec.com/specs/SP400_spe.html - it's that I think. Oh and it'll be a fairly empty system I expect .

what was wrong with the last one?

Nothing in it merits the price tag. Lack of upgradability as well. The Athlon 64-based machine is also likely to be much lighter on electricity usage and run cooler, thus lasting longer. Not only that, I've selected a high quality Samsung TFT to go with it, whereas the P4 system has no detail about the TFT that is included...

How about this Fujitsu Siemens from Comet for £499.99 with a dual core processor and 1GB RAM, and comes with MS Works:

Decent spec for the price and I have owned a Fujitsu Siemens for 18 months with no problems.

Ok, fair enough. As for the laptop, I agree with wicker_man.

Hi guys, I posted this in the Cambridge forum and was told I should post here as well so here goes,
I'm looking to buy a potrtable computer for lecture notes and essays and basically I've a list of questions I'd like to ask, any advice greatly appreciated!
1. Where is the best place to get one and why?
2. How much memory should I get? What are the basic requirements? What budget should I be looking at?

edit: should I move this post to the laptop thread in the subforum?

they look pretty good, another website for real cheap pc's is pcoption.co.uk ,

Youre first mesh loink doesnt work, but
http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=PRODUCTVIEWPAGE&USG=PRODUCT&ENT=PRODUCT&KEY=116787

is far better than the dell pc.

Looking at that, im worried by the fact mesh allow you to pick a 7900gt using the stock 250W PSU. I know its completely irrelevant to Chris.

Check my link, its better. There is no point in getting 7300gs cards in SLI. Get a single 7600GT instead which will be better.

edit: my link aint better, my point stands though.

Agreed. If I was buying a card for gaming at that price point, I'd go with a 7600.
Im gonna be getting one of these

http://www.goldenelectronics.co.uk/item--BA0301-A8V-VM-Deluxe-PC-AMD-Athlon-64-bit--BA0301.html

but 2 things i need to know. Are these new computers compatible with a standard IDE HDD ? and also can anyone see or know what rating the PSU on the cases are and the minimum for running the 3800+ AMD64 with a 7600gt gfx card?

Yes, although newer motherboards have only a single IDE connector.

They dont provide enough details for me to say for sure, but it seems like the PSUs are generic ones.
