Hey TSR! Time to get started!

This is the first day of the summer bucket list challenge for me and I started with a trip to the cinema! I've managed to tick off watching a new film for today, and I've been to the cinema to see something new.

I saw Captain America: Civil War (really late, I know. I've been too ill recently to get out and see it :frown:) I loved it. So so much. I'm no longer filled with doubt over the new Spiderman, and it was great to see some of my favourite franchise characters of all time on the big screen again. I'm really hyped for Doctor Strange now!

I also got started today on a couple pieces of artwork so hopefully they'll be done in a day or two and I can post those too!

I kinda suck at writing posts so I'm gonna leave it at that, although hopefully I'll get better over the summer

Hello again TSR!

I'm onto my second day and all is going well so far! I'm currently watching my film for the day, Allegiant from the Divergent series. It's okay so far, nothing amazing. I preferred the first but I'm still enjoying it. A lot of the effects were a bit crap but it doesn't really spoil the film.

I also made a little bit of progress (I think) on the getting into college front. I made a few phone calls and I'm lined up to interview. Hopefully it'll be soon. I applied a couple months ago but there's been some absence in the staff and a couple of technical errors and I also had to have a couple of meetings with the support team before actually getting started with the application process but hopefully all will be sorted soon enough so I can sort myself out ready for my new course!

I got a piece of work finished too and I'm pretty happy with it. It's not perfect, but it's the first low poly thing I've done and I'm actually really proud!

Hello again TSR!

Third day down! I've watched my film for the day. I chose Big Hero 6. It was such a sweet film. I am absolutely in love with Baymax; I think the character was written well. It was very predictable, but enjoyable at the same time. It's a family film, so predictability was expected.

Short post because I'm not feeling great. I'm gonna play a little Warframe before bed.

Hello again TSR!

Finished up my fourth day! Quick note: I haven't slept very well, and I was feeling really sore and ill today. I also had an appointment I really didn't want to go to but I dragged myself out the house and it was all good. I'm feeling surprisingly optimistic today, actually. I think it's writing these posts and going over the parts of the day that I enjoyed. I'm completely exhausted but I also feel like I'm ready to take on the world. I'm already looking forward to tomorrow!

I took my restless younger cousins to the cinema this afternoon while I was watching them to give myself a bit of a break and we ended up seeing Finding Dory. I can't even put into words how much I loved this film. I already want to see it again, and again, and again. Baby Dory was honestly the cutest thing ever, and I loved all the new characters too. The storyline was great, and it was honestly really quite funny. I loved Finding Nemo and I didn't actually think Finding Dory would live up to it but boy it did. It exceeded every one of my expectations. I 100% recommend this to everyone. After I saw it I frantically started calling every department that I could get the number of at the college I want to go to desperately trying to kick-start the admissions process because I want more than anything to be able to do that in the future. I want to animate films like that. I want to be the best I can possibly be, and then get better. I just think it's such an amazing art and I enjoy being part of the process so much.

I've also got my application form sorted for volunteering at a women's refuge and I'll be sending it off tomorrow. I'm really excited. I'm familiar with the charity already and I really think I have some skills that they could make use of. Here's hoping they take me on!

Hello again TSR!

Back again and it's the first day of July! I decided to go and see some old friends, many of whom I've not seen in a couple of years. The plan was to have something of a camp-out. I didn't have a tent or anything suitable really, so I didn't plan staying overnight. I ended up leaving early because someone managed to lose a bag of firewood and the fire went out, and I was soaking wet from the rain! My friend Grace and I ended up in McDonalds catching up over some chicken nuggets for a while before we decided it was time for dry clothes and a bed. It was definitely really nice to catch up with all these people I haven't seen in such a long time, although it was weird knowing the whole group but not being a part of it anymore. I did talk to a few of them about going out, though, and we're gonna have a nice meal out in town and then go for a few drinks so I can't wait for that. They're a really good bunch to be out with.

For my film of the day, I chose Joy. Oh my god, I loved it. I love basically anything with Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence in it, but the thing that really sold me was the character of Joy. She was just so normal. She refused glam outfits and stuck to what she knew and was comfortable with, and she was just a really well written character in my eyes. I'll definitely watch this again and I'd definitely recommend.

Almost forgot! TREAT YO SELF! I bought myself a TV. When I'm in college, I'm gonna struggle being downstairs a lot so I'll be keeping to my room most of the time. I planned on using my PC and the monitor to watch Netflix on but I can't see it unless I'm sat inches in front of it haha and I can't stand wearing my glasses while I'm lying down. They just don't sit right and it annoys me. It was a pretty cheap TV, nothing special. It was also on sale and the cheapest I could find but hey, it was a treat. It was money I earned and I deserve it. After all, money is to be spent right?

Hello again TSR!

Finished up my sixth day!

I ended up watching 3 films today: Non-Stop, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, and Star Trek. Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials was pretty bad. I just couldn't get into it and I thought the ideas were unoriginal and I just couldn't get myself to care for the characters that died or the ones that came close to it. I certainly won't be rushing to watch the next one. As for Non-Stop, meh. It was okay, but it was nothing special. It was a pretty easy watch which is something I like, and it wasn't as predictable as I expected. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. As for Star Trek, holy crap I loved it. I loved the characters and the casting was spot on. I'm gonna have to watch Into Darkness as soon as I can and I'm already looking forward to Beyond.

I also got through some Game of Thrones today. I'm about half way finished with the first series. I'm actually really enjoying it. My favourite character so far is Tyrion Lannister, and I really like Arya Stark. I didn't think a whole lot to Daenerys at first, but she's definitely grown on me. I'm already eyeing up a few Pop Vinyls! I watched an episode earlier with a really loud and long sex scene in it. Loud enough to wake up my sleeping mum upstairs who came down and asked why I was watching porn. Oops.

The plan for tomorrow is to get into the garden if the weather is nice enough! I want to get out and get my chilli and pepper plants planted and see if I can grow something!

I'd better end it here. I have 50 minutes to plan a whole meeting for my team before I have to lead it. Good thing being organised isn't on my list!

Hello again TSR!

Seventh day down!

My film for the day was Buried. I've been meaning to watch it for a few weeks, but I just never felt like it. I ended up putting it on this evening and I gotta say, it was pretty good. It was definitely better than I expected. The ending wasn't what I predicted and it was surprisingly easy to stay entertained and for the film to keep my complete attention for a one-set and one-location film. I'd recommend it if you like dark thrillers (and Ryan Reynolds).

I also got to the last episode of the first season of GoT today! I'll be starting season 2 tomorrow and I'm super excited for that. I'm trying to catch up as quickly as possible because I've either seen or only just managed to narrowly avoid spoilers and I'm determined to see this through, surprises and all!

I didn't get to plant my chilli and pepper plants today, unfortunately. It was raining pretty heavily and I didn't want them to flood and die like some of my flowers did. I don't want to fail before I've even really begun!

I did decide to cook my mum and myself a nice meal though! She didn't like the sound of it as she's quite fussy with food but in the end she really enjoyed it. We're both really excited to have it again, and I'm already looking forward to the leftovers! I made Asian style sweet and sticky chicken.

Here's a link to the recipe! http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=4198439&p=66252379#post66252379

Here's how it turned out. I couldn't get a better picture because I completely forgot until I'd sat down with it and I was very ready to eat by this point so I didn't want to waste time! I have to say though, I'm completely inspired to make and try a lot more new foods in the future!

Hello again TSR!

Eight days down!

Today ended up being quite the lazy day. I watched a few YouTube videos and tutorials on lighting and rendering today, so I got a bit of study in there! I spent most of the day in the end though vegging out on the sofa watching Netflix. I was exhausted today for basically no reason at all, so I saw it as a great opportunity to watch a bunch of Orphan Black (which is amazing and I 100% recommend,) and a little bit of GoT. My film for the day was the Netflix original The Fundamentals of Caring. It starred Paul Rudd, Selena Gomez, and Craig Roberts. I was having trouble deciding what to watch and I really love Paul Rudd's work, so I figured it'd be a good film to try. I'm so glad I watched it. It's a less serious and (obviously) more American version of Intouchables, a French film. I definitely really enjoyed it, and it's great to see such high profile people getting involved with the Netflix Original films. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out in the future for others I haven't seen, and for ones that have yet to be released.

I did want to start making a new character tonight, but I'm so exhausted I can't even type more than a sentence without yawning, so I'll be leaving that for another time. I'll be getting it done though! Tomorrow I'll be cooking Vietnamese pork, so you have my (hopefully) wonderful food pictures to look forward to tomorrow!

Hello again TSR!

Ninth day complete!

I started my day with a film, of course. I chose Total Recall. I'm not going to talk about this too much because wow it was pretty bad. Well, it wasn't a particularly bad film or anything, but I felt so incredibly let down by it. I expected something exciting and action packed and the whole thing felt a bit limp.

My mum actually went out tonight, leaving just me at home. I decided not to cook anything fancy just for myself, and I was pretty busy anyway. I'm an admin on a Minecraft server (of all things lol) and today was the first day since resetting everything for a new update. I had to get a bunch of worlds set up and ready to use, and that took a few hours in itself. I also had to completely redo the economy and I'm currently working on a set of shops for players to sell to and buy from, and there's still so much to get done. I have to say though, I do really enjoy working like this. The pressure of getting things done quickly for our player-base and making sure everything runs smoothly in such a fast paced and unpredictable environment is some I find really fun and rewarding. I have the economy to finish over the next few days, and a couple of plugins to fix/replace. Hopefully we'll be all set to get some mini-games back soon so I'll probably have that to do at some point!

I did actually do a little cooking in the end though. Well, maybe not cooking. I made candyfloss. What does that really count as? Anyway, I made this really nice and fluffy vanilla candyfloss. It was amazing. It would've been better if I knew how to spin it so I could have more than the tiny peak that I managed, but the rest went in a ziplock bag and it all got eaten in the end

20160705_181324.jpg

I also started learning a new skill! I decided to give Spanish another go. I did try it a long long time ago and really enjoyed it, but other things just ended up taking priority. So far I've done the basics really, nothing special.

Hola, encantada! Mi llamo Chelsea y tengo 18 años. Tengo una gata y ella bebe leche. Soy de Inglaterra. Yo no hablo mucho español.

Hi, nice to meet you! My name is Chelsea and I'm 18 years old. I have a cat and she drinks milk. I'm from England. I don't speak much Spanish.

I can't say for sure if that's correct, but it's where I'm at so far, really! It's a really fun language to learn, but I can't roll my 'r's so I do run into a few pronunciation issues every now and then! I'd love to go to Spain one day and be able to speak to locals in their own language.

I think that's all for today! I'm gonna be watching GoT (of course) while I finish off some work.

Thanks, it was! I've not had much experience with Asian food but this inspired me, for sure. I made Vietnamese pork tonight and it was delicious! Photos in tonight's post, and hopefully a recipe up somewhere too!

Hello again TSR!

Tenth day is complete!

I ended up having another busy day, so tomorrow is probably going to be pretty lazy!

When I woke up today, I felt like making a game. I watched a bunch of videos about it and had a play with Construct 2, and I made a game! It's a little space themed shooter, a lot like Space Invaders, except with more modern graphics and the enemies move differently. I have to say though, I'm incredibly proud of myself. I taught myself how to make a basic 2D shooter game in a day, and it was really fun. All I need to do now is learn how to make a start screen for it and then hopefully embed it into my portfolio website! I've done a bit of work on my portfolio online, but it's not even close to being ready yet. I'm going to keep that under wraps for a bit longer! I'm hoping to add a little score system and leaderboard to this game, and then maybe even make a simple 2D platformer. Now I'm even more excited for this course I've applied to study (games development and animation)!

I lost track of time a bit, and when I finally realised how late it was I shot downstairs to start food. I finally got that Vietnamese pork done, and damn was it good. Another hit with the family! They're trying to get me to study cooking, but there's no way I'd get through even an hour standing in a hot kitchen without passing out!

20160706_175016.jpg

I don't have an exact recipe for this, unfortunately, because I mainly threw things in and didn't measure the amounts, although I might be able to come up with something. If I do, I'll add it here! Anyway, so this was my Vietnamese pork. It was so so good. The rice was boiled in a beef stock, which added some serious flavour. I will definitely be trying that out again with different recipes. As for the pork, in the sauce there was ginger, fish paste, garlic, shallots, spring onions, brown sugar and sriracha. It was pretty easy to make and there wasn't too much clean-up either. Luckily I have some leftover to eat another time! It was sweet, like the chicken I made the other day, but not even close to as sweet as that was. This one was a little more spicy and the shallots really shone through, which was nice. I'll definitely be trying to figure this one out again sometime.

I finished the day settled on the sofa in front of the TV, as always! My film for the day was Whip It, which I have to say is probably one of my favourite films at the moment. It's such an easy one to watch and it's a real feel-good film. This is the kind of thing I'd watch on repeat if I was ill, along with Little Miss Sunshine of course! It's a real girl power film, too, and I love that. Whip It has me wanting to do roller derby, just like Grey's Anatomy made me want to be a surgeon. I love the kind of films and TV shows that make you want to take up a hobby or get a certain job. It's just like how Criminal Minds made me want to move to America to join the FBI. I really love anything that has that kind of effect. Let me know if there's anything I might not have seen that made you feel like that!

I have to say before I go though that I've really enjoyed writing up about my day. It's nice to settle down and go over what I've done that day, and what I've accomplished. I really think that after this challenge I'll continue writing little blog posts about certain challenges I'm taking up, whether that's another bucket list or if it's getting certain grades. Even if nobody was reading what I'm writing, it's nice to put everything into words, and it's nice to be able to come back and review later. Hopefully some of all this inspires someone else to do more things this summer too!

I'll be back tomorrow!

Hello again TSR!

Eleven days down. Almost at two weeks now!

It's been quite a productive day for me today, surprisingly. I intended to rest up because I've had a busy few days, but there were a few things I wanted to get done.

I got straight onto my computer for a couple of hours this morning and worked on my game! It's going really well. I can't add a leaderboard in for my online version, it turns out, but I've added a scoring system and a start screen! All I need to do is add an 'on death' screen and I should be all set! After that though, I've got to figure out how to add it to my portfolio. I think that's going to be the toughest part. I have to say though, playing around with software is such a great way to learn new skills and learn how to do cool things. This is the first time I've ever tried anything to do with making a game, and I've really enjoyed it. Not only have I just about finished a game, I already have an idea on how I'll make another! I would 100% recommend taking advantage of free software like Construct 2 if you're interested in what it can do. It's really easy to get around and the outcomes are great! When it's polished up a bit I'll have to get some screenshots or something!

Speaking of my portfolio, I've been working on plenty of content for that today as well. I sat down and made a model today, and started a few other projects which I'll hopefully be able to show you over the next few days. I'm really proud at how much I've managed to achieve with this! I'm really enjoying low-poly work at the moment, but I am trying to get a bit of variety going. Considering the first time I tried any of this was September last year with some friends for 5 weeks, and up until now I've been too ill and/or busy to do much with it, I've done pretty well. Just a note, I use Cinema 4D for all of my animation, modelling, and graphics work.

My nice little bull model! He's quite cute, and he was really fun to do. I can imagine him dancing  I messed up quite a few times but it was actually quite fun working through the problems to fix things up. I also made a little water/ice/mountain scene, too. I played a bit with some depth of field and a few other render settings I've not used before, and I like how it turned out.

It's my little cousin's 4th birthday on Monday and he wanted me to make him his favourite shortbread biscuits. I had a quick practice run today, partly because I really fancied some shortbread, and they turned out pretty cute!

They tasted good, and I actually remembered I was cooking so nothing burned! (RIP almost every frozen pizza that has entered my oven.) I think my main skill in the kitchen is forgetting that I'm cooking something and leaving it to burn. I'm really good at that.

I ended my day with a chill Netflix session of House, Orphan Black, and of course my film of the day! I watched Lone Survivor, and honestly I wasn't all that impressed. I've seen better war films, and there'll be better ones in the future. That being said, it was really interesting and the way the Afghans helped Marcus, which I learned is in their tribe scriptures to do, is something I'll remember for a long time. I'm not sure I'd watch it again, but I don't think I'll forget it either so I don't really need to. I think it's just one of those times where a film has been hyped up so much that it could never meet the expectations I ended up having. It's a shame, but it happens.

I'm very tired now, definitely looking forward to getting to bed! There's been a spider that comes in the middle of the night and hangs around on the ceilings I need to pass under to get to bed for the past three nights so I really hope it's not there again. It disappears during the day, I think up into a little hole I accidentally made in the ceiling a few years ago (lol), and comes out just to scare me. If I don't post tomorrow, it probably took me hostage.

Hopefully you're all enjoying your summers so far!

Hey there TSR!

Got through my twelfth day! It's been an incredibly long few days for me so my health issues have had me resting up in bed today. I didn't actually get up until 3pm, and I was back in bed by 7pm so it was a very short day  It's frustrating not being able to do anything interesting, but it's my situation and I can't change that so I may as well make the best of it. I did get a couple of things done though!

When my mum got home from work, she wanted my Asian chicken again. I was too exhausted to make it, so I walked her through it instead. She did all the hard work this time and it turned out great again! We didn't have quite enough honey so it turned out less sweet and a bit too spicy for her, but it was fine for me.

After that, I sat around for a while and gave my cat some fuss and (finally) sorted out my TV upstairs! It's so much bigger than I expected, but that just means I can actually read the Netflix titles and descriptions now  I spent my evening resting up, just having a bit of me-time really, which was nice. The house is a lot quieter now that my brother isn't around for the moment, but it means I can finally have some real chilled out rest time! Once I felt a little better, I got to my film of the day. I decided on Fargo, because it's been in my Netflix list for ages and I've always wanted to see it. I'm so glad I watched it tonight. Now I just want to go to Minnesota and live in the snow and with the accents. It's weird, considering all the death, but I really do.

That's about it for my day, I'm afraid. Hopefully I'll be better in a day or so! Fingers crossed! I'm looking forward to settling down in bed now, and maybe having a quick browse on Pinterest for any DIY projects I can do this summer.

Hey there TSR!

I'm up to thirteen days now and I've really enjoyed myself. It's had me motivated every day, even when I'm too ill to do much (like today).

I made things easy for myself and made curry in the slow cooker today. I have this adorable tiny one that's great for meals for 1-2 people. It's something I've made a few times with packets, but I made it differently today because I had none of the things in  I threw in some diced chicken, some curry paste, some peppers and onions and a few herbs and spices with some water, and 4 hours later it was ready! I love chicken done in the slow cooker because it's so juicy and the sauce soaks right into it.

I watched my film of the day while it was cooking: Puncture. It was actually really good, and you could really tell how much Chris Evans was into the role. I'm also quite into law films based on real events, and because the issues covered in this film happened years ago yet are still ongoing all over the world it's completely relevant and very interesting.

I've planned out a few projects for me to work on so I can make some nice pretty images! Hopefully I'll be able to finish the ones I was working on the other day tomorrow, and maybe get some more started.

I put aside a little time today to treat myself again! I took 10-20 minutes to paint my nails all nice. It's not much, but I love having painted nails and after the past few days it was nice to have a bit of luxury! I used my favourite polish, No7 patent effect Stay Perfect in black, with the clear Maybelline ColorShow on top. They're so shiny and smooth and while they're not so neat because I'm really bad a painting my nails, they'll do
