I know the Nottingham policy, a friend of mine worked on the clearing lines which is the same line which you call if you miss grades and need to check it. Unfortunately, their policy is that if you miss your grades, you don't get in... I can't be 100% sure with Durham, but I would have thought they're also pretty much the same.

If you don't want to go somewhere, then why apply? If you're predicted AAA surely you should get it, or is this another example of schools just predicting grades so that someone gets offers...
