What??? Are you storing porn or what? Word documents occupy minimum space so anything of at least 1GB is okay.

Yes

Most people are saying that one might be needing external hard-drive for storing movies and all that, I was just wondering if i-player is not allowed at uni? Does one really need a tv license to watch shows on i-player?

Thanks!

You only need a licence if you are watching TV as it is broadcast. iplayer, for the most part is a catch up service. If you just use it for that, then you do not need a license. If you use iplayer to watch live TV, you'd need a licence

If you watch live TV, on your laptop, on batteries, you do not need a TV license - as long as you pay for a TV licence at home:

If you watch live TV, on a laptop, on mains power, then suddenly you do need a TV licence

Yeah, but I put that in, because some people don't want to flout the t's and c's put down. Realistically, they'd have to see you watching TV on something that's powered from the mains before they can actually do any thing

probably cos most of the stuff on that list is not a gadget!

Well, there are lots of things on the thread so far that aren't strictly a "gadget". I think I got negged because of some little green people that stalk the corridors of TSR plus some non apple-eaters.

I just thought about my friends at college and nearly all have one or more of iphone/ipad/macbook or another leading tablet instead of ipad. Most have two of those. They don't strike me as either particularly stupid or particularly loaded. Apple products are marketed well, true, but they are also market leaders and it's not because all the customers are gullible.

For every apple-loather on TSR there are at least 1,000 satisfied customers.

I work loads and have plenty of money, I just prefer it to be sat in the bank than wasting it on something I can get for 5% of the price. Can go on an extra holiday for the same price. How anti-social have you gotta be that you want to buy headphones that cancel out all noise imaginable?! Lame.

You are not being forced to buy them it was a suggestion  Stop Attacking me Everyone .... GODDD!!!
A dictaphone so you dont have to take as many notes!

Laptop (and separate mouse)
Phone and charger
Speakers and headphones
Ethernet cable
Printer
Camera
Alarm clock
memory sticks/ external hard drive (to back up all your work)
if thinking of taking a TV- VGA/HDMI cable and aerial wire
bottle opener and can opener
Extension cable (with long wire)

Other things (not gadgets):
Drinking glasses (keep in room so you know they're clean)
DVDs
Folders to keep work organised
Plenty of paper and pens
Bag big enough to carry laptop around comfortably in
fancy dress items if you have them (don't buy unless you need them)

Not in Uni yet, but i'm sure to be taking an extension lead

Or even better a surge protector, I wouldn't want my PC being destroyed by lightning or if the accommodation has rubbish circuit breakers

So if I have sky +, but never watch sky live, record everything I want then I don't need a licence?

You can get those safety plugs now that stop your appliances getting ruined
Although just saying you own a 'surge protector' is a good enough reason to buy one

wow you sound fun ! :colonhash:

Or I have a brain cell? If you have a laptop you have speakers. 2.1 isn't necessary. Then again I'm bit of a tech connoisseur - I won't just get any junk, I need to spend a decent amount for it to be worth it. Printer depends on your course. I've printed off 14 pages this year and that wasn't even all for uni work. I'd say up to half. I was offered a free printer a couple of weeks ago but turned it down because I have no space or need for it until September.

If you're in halls you probably can. The TV licence people send letters but never heard of them raiding halls.

What happened to Nottingham University: Psychology and Philosophy?
Did you transfer to music?

Thanks for asking  I'm still at Nottingham at the moment doing psychology and philosophy but dropping out at the end of this year and reapplying next year (having a delayed gap year I suppose!) while I apply to music college. I guess I should explain that a bit more in my sig

So you are re-applying to psych and philo while you apply to music college? Why don't you just apply to music college then?
I am just curious I hope you don't mind me asking.
