Secondary Effects of Mt St Helens?

Does anybody know any secondary effects of Mt St Helens?

The only one I can think of is the Positive Impact of the ash on the quality of the soil as it made it more fertile and therefore they had more crops!

Any ideas would be much appreciated :smile:
Hey katieza. I'm doing the paper involving natural hazards so I know what you're talking about. You should take a look at things like lahars, which in the case of Mt Helens did contribute to the death toll. And the effects of the ash cloud as it reached quite far, and will have effected the surrounding area as according to this site http://mtsthelens0.tripod.com/id9.html two people died fleeing an ash cloud. Though be wary as some things put onto the internet can be slightly incorrect. And of course there was a substantial loss of wildlife in the are which will have affected the local ecosystem and of course any people raising livestock. Hope this helps.
