Recommanded reading for psychology undergraduate applicants?

I'm applying for psychology next year, and am especially interested in developmental psychology. Can anyone recommend good books that could help me with my application? Thanks!

My auntie used to lecture in early childhood studies and i know that this is her favourite book on the subject.

Try 'The Baby in the Mirror' by Charles Fernyhough:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Baby-Mirror-Childs-World/dp/184708074X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335709266&sr=8-1

It covers most of the developmental areas / topics you will cover in your first / second year of university as a psychology student and it's story-like style makes it both accessible and easy to read.

A general psychology book I can recommend is 'The Man Who Mistook His Wife for A Hat' By Dr. Oliver Sacks:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Man-Mistook-Wife-Picador/dp/0330294911/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1335709443&sr=1-1

If you can reference both of those in your personal statement then you'll be on the right track ;-)

NOOO not Oliver Sacks. Far too overused on personal statements.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Experiments-With-People-Revelations-Psychology/dp/0805828974 - is a really awesome book. It helps get you used to reading lab reports and is really interesting. Deffo recommend for PS purposes and for general learning
As said above not Oliver Sacks! Its an interesting read but everyone using it and its important to point out that he's not a psychologist.
I can't help you with specific books but make sure you don't just focus on how you like developmental psychology as it restricts what you want to do and the amount of developmental offered by universities differs greatly.
